How much agnus castus 1000mg tabs would you give daily to a 480kg horse?

Not sure in relation to human dosage.......

Any help appreciated, cookies and hot choccy to those who help :D
 
I feed the powder which is supposed to be 30-50g for a horse, I can just about get my mare to eat 30g divided into two feeds due to its strong smell!

So erm, that would be 30 tabs which seems like a lot.
 
Based on 15g a day yes, but you will find most places that sell it for horses recommend about 40g. I buy mine from pro earth on eBay which sells it at 900g or 1.8kg. My horse weighs about the same as yours so 30 would probably be a good start, so only 30 days supply.

Might try it on my gelding as well as hes getting on a bit and I am a bit obsessed with cushings after my friends 15yr old was PTS with that.

He doesnt have any classic symptoms but has been dropping weight recently despite being well fed, uptodate with womring and teeth etc :)

Ok how strong does it smell? The mare will eat anything that isnt piss or poop but of I try it on my gelding hes a right fussy old beggar!! I can mix it with mint though but will have to go buys some if its that strong a smell :)

LOL have one of those! Mag Ox with the Chaste Tree (Agnus Castus) works better IME.

Haha well it is often known as 'monks pepper' so it basically smells and tastes like mild pepper. It's quite a pungent sort of spicy/aromatic smell and it tastes spicy which I imagine is not pleasing to a horse. The first time my mare had it I put too much in and she was pulling flehmen faces and rubbing her teeth on her leg to get it off! I then reduced to about 15g at a time and she tolerates it now. She does only have hay chaff and a few hi fibre nuts though so if you could give it with something a bit more tempting they'll prob go for it!

I put enough water in to dampen it but not enough for there to be left over liquid that she will leave :-)

Oh ta muchly :D Yeah shes really bad this year, is having her first season of the year and the other two are getting it rotten and the old man has had to hammer her a few times to get her to give it up. I'm not a fan of them fighting, friend suggested moody mare stuff and this has got good reviews :D

hmm cinnamon, I have loads of that in the house, mother loves it with pretty much everything haha :D

He gets tumeric and east that with no issues but thats not that spicy and kinda smells earthy to me anyways lol :)

Ok box of dried mint to get from feed store as well then, I can mix it all in his alfalfa mush and with the mint im sure he will eat it all if I try him on it, not decided yet :D

The mare will honestly eat anything, she used to eat woodshavings and sawdust bedding and went through her straw bed sifting out the eddible bits, I had nothing but a small pile of wet and some poos every morning she was in. Gannet :rolleyes:
 
I give my mare mag ox too, since a few months ago. That has made a dramatic difference to spookiness and resultant awkwardness, the AC I have been trying for about 2 weeks so only slight possible changes like less sensitive about grooming etc so far. Hoping it will keep acting.

It's supposed to act on the pituitary gland and therefore regulate hormones, I don't know if it works for cushings but would be interested to know!

When i was researching it for her I saw that it was given to cushings horses and made a difference to the symptoms :) Its natural and couldnt really hurt him i suppose :)
 
Haha, my mare eats sticks, really quite big sticks! I thought there was nothing she wouldn't eat but it turns out sticks are a fine delicacy to be savoured above all things, other than nettles which are slightly better! Mmm crunchy :-)
 
Oooh yeah thistles are for munching on, so are brambles, rosebushes, basically anything she can get through her muzzle in summer!!!

Ill see how we get on with it, the mint I can get no bother and also mint cordial if the dries stuff doesnt do the biz for them :)
