Woohoo... is it daft to be excited I can buy Pre Alpin again?

First of all I was excited to see that a tack shop 45 mins from me stocked them, then I found them in my *local* Agri centre, where I normally buy my shavings from.

Of course this means that I now have a bag of Speedibeet I ordered specially from the UK to use as well as the hay cobs :/

Goodness, I'd forgotten how gorgeous they smell when soaked!
 
Pre-Alpin is a feed company from Bavaria. I'm using it and I'm very impressed with the palatability of the stuff. Sold by one company in UK, though they're getting their stock into limited feed merchants.

I've started mine on this the last few months, he loves it. He's sensitive and had ulcers so I try to keep his feed as natural as I can and very pleased with it. Am wondering how to help maintain weight in winter though? What do you add to it for weight gain? He's looking spot on at the moment but I know winters looming x
 
I want to start feeding this stuff - it looks wonderful! I have contacted Red Rufus and they are sending me samples to try (very fussy mare).

Of course, there are no stockists near to me :( and I've just looked on the GJW Titmuss website - it's free delivery... except on bulk items which these are. Makes a 15kg bag of chaff £22.94 ....I love my horse but, it doesn't make economic sense to pay that for a bag of chaff!!

Red rufus have emailed me to say they are adding new stockist every week though - hopefully someone near me soon... and I did read on another forum that Mole Farmers MIGHT be stocking this brand? Hopefully this is true cos there is one near me!!
 
I'm lucky to have a stockist near me, had a few samples and the guinea pigs love the muesli, sadly for them the horse will only be getting the aspero!

If they didn't I would be asking mole and countrywide which are both near me if they would stock it, if they get enough requests they will. Countrywide also do free click and collect so I have been doing that with our previous feed as not kept in stock routinely.
I'd ask my local feed people too, just so they knew about it ;).

Where are you? I only need to get 4 bags delivered and get free delivery. There are quite a few people on my yard that have made the switch.

I wouldn't be surprised if you don't need anything else, I've never seen my horse blooming like she is at the moment.
 
Who do you order from 9tails? Don't think Red Rufus have their online shop set up yet? I'm in Notts and my nearest stockist is over 30 miles away. It was on my mind to go over for a bulk order but am struggling for space at livery yard. Nobody else on yard is interested either :(

Have just emailed Mole Farmers/Countrystores - whatever they are called now, and asked if they are going to stock it anytime soon. Will await their reply!
 
I call Red Rufus (the old fashioned way on the telephone ;-) ) and order from them direct. They're very easy to deal with.
 
I was excited about the thought of trying this feed. However, my ideas were quickly squashed when I was advised how much I would have to feed! doesn't work out economical enough for me!
 
I've just ordered a 4 bags from Red Rufus with free delivery. I bought a bag of the meadow cobs by mail order from E-feed to try and found them extremely economical as it only takes double handful of cobs to make a fragrant mash. This winter I'll try my 33 year old on their senior feed and see how he goes.
 
So... do Red Rufus offer free delivery to everyone or do you live close to them? Actually, where are they based exactly? If it's free nationwide, I'll order off them - providing my fussy madam eats the sample they send :D
 
I find it no more or less economical than other feeds. I go by eye on what the horse gets fed, if she loses weight she gets more and vice versa. Currently it's vice versa.

What a lovely cob. My black and white cob has those pawprint dots too.

Can I ask Meadow cob users do you always soak them as advised or do you feed them dry?
 
You must soak them if feeding as a bucket feed. They puff up so much when in contact with liquid it would be a danger to feed dry.

I've fed them singly as treats, and occasionally in a snack ball when there has been no grass in the field, but if feeding as a meal I've always soaked with a large volume of water.
 
Oh thanks. I'm feeding them soaked and as you say they do expand hugely.

The literature says 'can be fed dry but imperative you introduce very slowly to avoid colic. We strongly recommend soaking' so I was curious to know if anyone did feed dry.
