I am going to 'adult riding camp' this weekend for 2 nights with my gelding. Any advice?

I am usually so chilled out but am kinda crapping myself. I am getting dropped off as haven't done my trailer test yet, its over a hour and a half away from home so don't want to forget anything.

I know one person going but thats it.. hope I get on with everyone, most seem really serious and compete mostly dressage but I am just taking my little cob to have some fun! eeeekkk..

Is this at Keysoe by any chance??!!! :D

On a serious note, it's soooo easy to over pack. This is my list:
Horse
Saddle
Bridle
Brushing boots
2x numnahs & ears
Thermatex/ Cooler
Stable rug for day/night
Feed (i make them up and put them in bags so only need to add soaked grass nuts when feeding)
Bale of hay & haynets
bag of shavings
water bucket(s)
first aid kit (although, always kept in the lorry anyway)

You
Riding wear
Pyjamas
yard boots & riding boots
hat & gloves
wash bag
food supplies
WINE
Plenty of spare clothes and waterproofs!!

I always have everything for the horses but always forget something for me lol

It depends upon your horse but consider taking your own haylage/hay, if the venue allow it, if you don't want to risk an adverse reaction to switching to completely different forage.
We run an annual camp for the Exmoor Pony Society at Somerford and it has always been such fun; the ponies seem to adapt very easily to being all stabled together.

Somerford haylage is rocket fuel - that's the the only place I take my own haylage. Everywhere else has been fine. x

I'm off to TREC training camp in Wales this weekend, and have another one in May. I love camps, it doesn't matter if you don't know anyone, most people won't. My top tip - if you are sleeping in lorry, have a GOOD sleeping bag or quilt, plus at least one more blanket, and have fleecy PJs and a hat and wooly socks to sleep in. My PJs actually have a hood, which is perfect. This time of year the nights are VERY cold.

You'll have a great time and remember, social media tends to show us at our best if that's how you're guestimating that everyone else is very serious. Plus what is serious to one person might not be to another. Go get stuck in and have fun. As others have stated being cold and or wet is not nice so pack plenty or warm gear and some good waterproofs. I also like to have non riding gear for the evenings, which is still jeans boots etc but just something cleaner to put on after a shower.

Don’t worry, you will be fine. There will probably be other first timers too. Everyone will be there to learn but also to have a great time so relax and enjoy.
I realised at my first camp that everyone is usually so engrossed in themselves at the beginning that whatever you do is only relevant to you. Later when you have made friends you encourage each other.
Remember not to compare yourself with anyone else, you are there for your improvement and enjoyment.

No - Stockland Lovell!

I have been to several camps at Stockland Lovell it's very chilled. Everyone is there to learn and have fun. So just relax and write a list of things you need ticking them off as you fill the car. I have been to camps before on my own and always met people there and made friends with people from my riding group. You will be fine. Let us know how it goes!
