10 days back at old yard! I'm now in 'trouble' again *sigh*
Apparently 5 hours work a week is FAR too much for Alba (who admittedly is ANCIENT) Despite the fact that I make sure the girls warm her up gently and cool her down before taking her in, and also the fact that she gets lots and lots of breaks during the actual lesson when I quiz the girls on riding theory.
She does jump, but only for a part and maybe twice a week jumps 80cms. ONE fence, not a course, but this is abusive, apparently.
Never mind that she barely breaks into a sweat and tries to canter back to the yard....
I don't mind that her owner doesn't want to lend her to me (I pay half of all her expenses BTW) but I AM offended by the suggestion that I would illtreat, mistreat or overwork ANY horse

She's an eejit. My pupil, a 10 year-old girl who was all excited about jumping 80cms for the first time, told her and she's assumed I've been making her jump every day! Owner lives all of 50metres away from yard too so she could quite easily come and watch me give a lesson. Heck, I expect she can hear me.
After posting here I thought I'd better ring her up and clarify matters... I said I'd heard she'd been looking for me... she said 'No'. What a numpty eh? She'd rather keep taking my 50% than confront me on what she believes to be a welfare issue

I really and truly don't think I could cope with the people you have to

How you keep calm and sane I have no idea. How appalling to think that they don't trust you or your judgement with this horse. I hope you can reassure them somehow.

some people just dont have a clue the pony is obviously fine and enjoying it, im sure the pony will let you no when its had enough of been ridden and just wants to stop being ridden but it sounds as if its having a great time. some ponies prefer to be kept in work even in the late years.

You know, having been on the 'other side of the fence' I've realised that this yard is really no different than other yards (out here!) After the initial anger had passed I decided to ring Alba's owner up and very sweetly and politely tell her that I'd hate for her to be worried about A's welfare and to shove her very kind offer where the sun doesn't shine. In fact she denied ever having asked after me...
The fact that she was concerned enough to tell Fabian that she was worried about the mare, but not concerned enough to speak to me personally, or come and watch a lesson, or in fact stop taking my money tells you something about her, doesn't it?

Ai ai ai, cara mia!!!!! If you look at it honestly, Argentina or Italy, arent really much different from GB-the idiocy and bitching is just a wee bit more wide spread where we are

Hmm you are right PF, she cant care that much if she wont even confront you.

My feeling is she KNOWS you are treating the horse well, she just wants something to bitch about!

You should get everyone to wear big shoulder pads and earrings, then the Dallas soap opera theme will be complete!

Saw Alba's owner today. She said the mare's original owner was concerned that she was working too hard *rolls eyes* and so (someone please explain the rationale) she was giving the care of the mare to a Spanish gentleman who happens to take lessons with me... he is, of course, picking up the whole livery bill rather than half (which is what I was doing)
It'll be interesting to see if, when said gentleman goes back to Spain, Alba becomes available for lessons again..
The owner will still be able to ride her so ideal situation for her BUT I'd like to see her do it when my saddle and bridle suddenly become unavailable to her
