Im going to keep it breif for the moment and will explain in more detail later
i have someone coming to see my mare next week, they sound perfect for her, very keen. Now it has come to light that she may have something wrong with her that isnt exactly cheap to diagnose and rectify. She is on a bute trial then is being examined next week. what do i say to the people viewing her? i dont want her going if she potentially has something wrong and dont want to waste their time, but if i cancel the veiwing and it turns out to be nothing iv lost a potentially perfect home for her!

Tell the truth - it always works out best in the long run - especially if you care about the horse.
S :D

I think I would tell them the truth and put back the viewing if you need to. If you would keep her if she is ill, then you are not trying to 'blag' anything by being honest with them and I think they will appreciate that, if they really want her they will wait until you know whether it is likely or not that she is not 100%. Good luck

Tell the truth, as Allover said, what would you want if you were the buyer? Plus if they want her, have her vetted and bloods are taken you will get caught out anyway if she passes, is bought, goes lame and they then test the bloods :)

^^ Read that back sounds really harsh and accusatory its not meant to be at all.... I've been put on new epilepsy pills and they are playing with my head, made me a bit moody (say it as it is) - sorry!!

Sorry but it is never nothing. If she's not sound and there's no visible injury, your horse now has a recent history of unexplained lameness. Take her off the market until you have an explanation for the problem. I hope its something that can be permanently resolved, then you could re-advertise. :)

im going to give them a ring now, they seem very keen so hopefully they will understand, i cant go through with it knowing something might be wrong.
we think she has gastric ulcers, she is being examined next week. and is having her ovaries checked.

my vet is away untill next week now so if she settles on the bute then she will be scoped if she doesnt she will have an internal examination of her ovarys aswell. aswell to keep her comfy untill she is examined. My vet knows her so i wont have another.

shes on danilon and only on half a sachet twice a day to see if it calms syptoms. will find out next week whats going on. something isnt right thats for sure. They were very nice about it a wished her well.

Horses who have ulcers or even suspected ulcers should never have danilon it will make the symptoms worse not better not sure what vet who told you that but there is no way that will help the symptoms. The only product that will work even on a trail is Gastrogard thats it 7 day course will tell you straight away if works or not. When Tim the person they use to scope the horses did mine even he said about avoiding danilon or anything that can aggravate the ulcers.

i wonder why he said to give it to her then? its my usuall vet, when i spoke to tim about my tb he said to give him a magnesium supplement and see if that calmed things.

Agree totally with this. You need to scope the horse.

I have no experience of ulcers but if I were the prospective purchaser, I would want to know what is happening. IMO you should ring them, tell them the whole story and ask if they would like to come and meet her (if they're not too far away). That way you and they will know if they are likely to still be interested when you have got the problems sorted out. I think that this offer will 'keep them on-side', so that if they do like the look of the mare, they won't dash off and buy something else. After all, people are struggling to sell horses atm.

Its a guy called Tim brazil that does the scopes, out of the practice little Nick is brilliant with advice and things to do with ulcers and can offer a lot of practical advice in that area. Hope you manage to get it sorted out and i really would question the danilon advice as seems so incorrect.
