I own a TBxIrish cob. He's got good bone, but definately not a heavy-weight cob. He's a lovely skewbald and has had success in coloured showing in the past, with a few qualifications for HOYS. I'm now about to try a few showing classes with him, and at the minute he has a full gorgeous, lovely shiny summer coat. But his legs are starting to look very hairy, and not so good.
So, my mum's friend has offered to clip his legs (she's very good at trimming them without them looking weird compared to the rest of his hairy body!). But the thing is, I ride him regularly doing cross country and one day events, and his cob breeding means he has a very thick coat, so he gets so so so sweaty. And now i'm thinking about clipping him out completely, purely for his comfort!
But, will we be marked down in showing for having a full clip? And I'm reluctant to get rid of his gorgeous coat. Any advice?? I have no idea what to do!

if he is cob type he hsould either be hairy and feathery in all his glory, or fully clipped, trimmed and hogged..........

If he has a full clip including legs he should have a hog to be correct. UNLESS he is fine enough to get away with a full clip and legs off and then you can plait his mane?

Got any pictures? as this will help

Also don't forget his tail as this must fit in with whichever look you go for!

At the moment he's shown with a plaited mane& pulled tail, i don't think he's ever been hogged. But not entirely sure...
I'll try and put a picture up, but not entirely sure how to!
