sorry this would be my first rant honest!!

lady and her daughter came to look at my brothers pony today, we rang up to this ad

Nice natured mares wanted for private breeding. Large field and stables with countryside surroundings. Would consider mild lameness/slight nervousness. Good bloodlines unimportant. No pure TB’s. Other breeds considered. Good conformation needed. 13.3hh–16hh. Desirable qualities; good to catch, trim, box etc., but not essential. Must be able to live out with a rug. Limited funds available, but will give some money for a nice broodmare. Ideally free to good home, as they will receive lots of love and attention in an experienced home. Hertfordshire area, will travel surrounding counties.

o.k this is her story, we are selling her as a broodmare/ Hapyyhack as she has very slight arthritis in her hock, this was only diagnosed this year as we took her to a lady to sell for us as me and my mum do not have the time and my brother was in the middle of GCSE's but the school wasn't very good so she rode her in the field hard nearly every day and one day she came out slightly lame so we call the vet out who said ok lets take some x-rays to see whats going on,
the x-rays showed some were and tare in the hock, but the vet said she could do everything but not compete every weekend like she was
we had her up for £4.000.00
but we have now decided to sell to a loving home who just wants a happy hack or a broodmare and we are asking £1.000.00
so we emailed the above people back and said ok if you like her we will let you have her for £600.00 (just so she could go to a nice home as this is more important)

so they arrived this morning, we were thinking they wanted a broodmare so mum said would you like to see her on the lunge trot up etc?
daughter replys oh no i want to ride her so mum says ok and tacks her up, (the pony hasnt been ridden since october due to lack of time) the daughter walks around a couple of times then asks for trot up the long side, pony goes into a very slow jog trot daughter shouts out oh i don't even know what pace that is ???
so mum explained she needed to go more forward she was only trotting very slowly, so she pushed her on and got a very nice trot, daughter then stops and says to her mum do you want ago mum replys no but can we hack her,
(my) mum replys yes but she hasn't been out in a while
anyway they return with the daughter walking (never a good sign!!)
mum says oh thats not a good sign
Daughter replys no how would you like it if a the pony rears and bucks with you (pony is always been very good to hack & went out last weekend and was fine), she continued she needs more work or you should really sell her as a broodmare

me and my mum were horrified i can't explain how rude she was this kid was 16/17 years old
we replyed to a broodmare ad ??
what a complete timewaster
on the plus side of things i did ride Lottie for 10min and she was a complete star!!

(we did only walk though with two long sides of trot!)

chocolate cookies to anyone who got this far but i needed to get it off my chest

thanks

I thought the ad was a bit dodgy. Limited funds but wanting broodmares! Breeding not important! Sorry, I wouldnt sell or gift a horse to a set up like this. It sounds very dodgy to me.As for the people, they come in all shapes and sizes, specially when your selling a horse. Hope those two dont come back. Mairi.

nice cookies...

they sound like complete timewasters, want to breed but don't care particularly about the quality of the horse..probably want it cheap...
my gut feeling is they would buy VERY cheap, breed indiscriminately or try and sell it on as a riding horse without disclosing any lameness, or go straight to the meat man if they thought they could turn a profit

you know who to avoid next time!

i got abit confused but i made it thru ur post! can i get a cookie now?
lol,
that type of ads really really and i mean REALLY upset me. there are too many ppl out there wishing to breed from animals not suitable (not saying ur mare isnt) but id stay well clear from ads like that.
i have sold a few shetland ponies and god, trying to find right homes for them is so hard "weve got a big garden that he can stay in" or "can my kids ride him?...eh no, hes only 2! and no, just coz hes small and cheap he cant stay in ur house!
however i found suitable homes and im sure if u keep advertising ur mare ull find one suitable where shell get tlc also

They sound more like dodgy dealers to me, what the girl said all sounds a bit rehearsed?

Take care guys, you may be able to send your mare to an equine blood bank. I think they pay you 500 for the horse, and they live out and are cared for beautifully untill they die naturally, or need to be put down through health reasons.
They are used to suppy blood for transfusions etc. I think they collect once every two weeks?

May be worth looking into?

Good luck!

Poor you what silly people, if that was me they would have got thier marching orders to be honest! Yeah like mairi said, ad sounds a bit daft! oh well, sounds like pony has a lucky escape, be thankful for that. And i shall take my cookie, thankyou very much ha ha x

Some people are such a waste of space it is unbeleivable!
Their add didn't sound very genuine either, keep looking I am sure you will find a great home for your mare, good luck.

yes should have expected trouble when they asked mum to pay in instalments

We have lernt from our mistake, i think we all think people are as genuine as we are,
I will look into the blood bank home thanks for that

i have also just been on the same web site and under another catogory found this ad
Companion mare needed for lonely female equine. Age between 4 to 16. Can be light hack or never ridden. Must have kind nature. Anything considered. Will travel around England. Free or offer

its the same number & email

i cant belive we fell for it

Place your own advert - most of these ads you are seeing are possibly the result of dodgy dealers looking for cheap horses to resell at auctions.

I personally wouldn't reply to any such adverts. Put your ads out locally in the tack shops, feed stores etc and you are more likely to find a genuine buyer. Any ads which say they will travel anywhere for a cheap horse......beware of them!

my instructors old horse was always lame so he went to a blood bank and apperntly he`s really happy and they get really well cared for

IMO they prob wanted a riding pony but as cheap as poss hence them ad for a broodmare, I had a 16.2 who suffered a bad injury to hock and was only sutiable for broodmare I used to work for a lady who bred so called her on the off chance she wanted to know her breeding which wasoff clover hill lines and she is not a big breeder but did say as nice as the mare was if the she had no papers she would not have taken her. She did take her and still with her, so to me that sounds dodgy.
