I am sure everyone is noticing how terrible they are this year! I got caught in a cloud of them today on my ride (I never knew that they could swarm!!). Both myself and my horse was bitten to pieces (I now have 5 welts the size of tennis balls on me. I have Deosect now on order in hopes that they leave my girls alone but question is what do you do to stop them from munching on you?!? Or is there in fact no way to prevent the monsters biting!

I thought we had loads (killed 20 while lungeing pony) Then went to Dan Greenwoods for a lesson today and they are twice the size, very very fast and get angry and attack you. As soon as we opened the horsebox they were in there and looking for blood. Glad to be home with horses out in snuggyhood bug rugs

They are the most vile creatures on earth. and yeah, they do swarm. I don't know anything that sees them off. I just don't ride when they are at their worst. It's not fair to do it. when I have ridden. I just constantly swipe all round her with my stick and use a ride on sheet to protect her a bit . I would love to know if there is something that works, I would use it myself, I always have a bit of a reaction to them.

I most certainly won't be riding on that ride again till they disappear that's for sure! It's a good thing my girl is a good girl as spent most of smacking them off her or myself! The trouble is they are just as bad in our field as well!

aaaaah yeah they are terrible but you can always use lots of fly spray and now they have wrist bands for us, u can always cover up but otherwise, well thats just life, with keeping horses there are down sides but all of us are strong people and thats why we do it, no pain no gain
