I was at a show yesterday and as i was in my class i noticed a lady out side the ring leading her horse every so often she would yank on the reins and the horse would pull back and do a small rear then the lady would beat it round the head several times with her whip. They would walk on then it would happen again. I complaind to the judge in my ring who also saw this happen and she sent her steward to the secretary to complain. I finished my class and as i left my ring the lady was in the next ring and she did it again while in her class. I went to the show organiser and complaind myself and she bit my head off saying she was dealing with it. Anyway it turned out the class the lady was in was the ring championship and to everyone watchings horror the lady got reserve champion. Later on the orgoniser oppologised for bitting my head off and said she had delt with the issue and it hadn't happened again. But i was appaled she got reserve champion with that behavour no matter what the horse was doing. Rant over and i feel a little better now. sorry but this made me so angry.

God I hate seeing this kind of thing at shows, you feel so helpless - if you say something, you're guaranteed to get a mouthful (which I could handle) but as soon as they get home they'll do it again, if they even wait that long.

What i couldn't beleive was she did it in the ring infront of the judge and full view of all watching. So god knows what she does to the poor horse at home.

Grrr! Can't stand people like that! My instructor once gave a lady a good telling off for that, threatening she'd stick an effing spoon in her gob if she did it again ... Ooops!

That's terrible.
I told a girl off a few years ago in the next box for wellying her horse after it had finished it's XC round, I was horrified when her Mum approached me, but she thanked me and said she was grateful!
I would write to the show comittee and suggest they don't use that judge in future.

She should of been sent off the showground if you ask me.

hope it was all worth it for her little collection of ribbons she got!

Well done for being so proactive in your complaints - so often we are not.

I would absolutely write an official letter of complaint to the show committee. And actually would probably write to a publication like H&H asking why this sort of behaviour continues to be allowed on any show ground, and seemingly rewarded.....

I complained to the show organiser it is only a small local show realy although they hold them almost every week. It's a shame this happened realy as it's very local to me but i don't think i can go back after this behavour was aloud to happen. I am writing to horse and hound about it to i hope if they publish it the woman reads it and is ashamed of herself or the show organiser is but sadly i don't think they will be.
