17 months ago my 12yr old Dx had a full splint bone removel on her right hind, from which she has recovered as well as the best case would allow. BUT over the last 3 months when we have a gallop she is loosing her front shoe on this side. I have checked after a canter all fine and so on until we have a gallop and then it's gone. that means once a week i'm trying to get in touch with my farrier. I tried using over reach boots with no success. Could this be a problem arising from the surgery ??? or bad Shoing ?????

i wouldnt be too quick to say bad shoeing..

i'd more likely say that as the horses are more likly to over reache at a gallop that this is the cause...

That it is happening on one side suggest she is losoer on this side!

yep, on a good gallop the horses hind legs are coming level with the girth or further so are pretty likly to over reach, or she's moving close in front. Possible that the surgery has effected her movement just enough to make a difference.

It could actually be down to good shoeing, as if the farrier has given the horse plenty of support at the heels, then the shoe is more likely to be pulled off when over-reaching!
