Ahhhhh sorry but i need a rant.
Yesterday i went to a regonal final for the v.h.s olympia qualifires. My pony is 19 years old and still works hard hunting all winter and jumping, showing, dressage and endurance competitions of up to and inclu 80km. She is fit and looks well for her age. When i went into the ring i have never felt so out of place in my life it was full of fat show horses that made lucy look thin when infact she is just fit and muscled. In the in hand class i came dead last and when i went into the ridden one i had riders overtake me very close and use my pony as breaks which upset her but she was the best behaved one of the lot. The judges pulled the line up in and said things like the grey hunter and the bay riding horse next. I was last (no suprise there) but when they pulled me in they said to the steward oh and that chestnut thing!!!!!!!!!
Then they came over and told me my pony was lame and i shouldn't be riding it. No one else there thought it was lame and the ride organiser even very kindly gave me my entry fee back.
All the horses that seem to be qualifing seem to be ex hoys or top dressage animals. They should re name it the veteran show horse final. Because it's not for horses that have worked hard (and still do). I think Lucy is a top class veteran and so do all who know her it just makes me sad she can't have her moment in the sun because of the way showing is. Although i do know she doesn't care as she loves to do all the other things i do with her.
Sorry a bit of a pointless post but i feel a bit better now. I'm shore i'm not the only one who feels this way.

How rude of her to say that!

stuff her, you do get funny judges!

I know exactly how you feel! Not at the same level as you, but my daughters 21 year old ex jumping pony is now shown in veteran classes on the lead rein. Although she has put on weight from her jumping days she is still reasonably slim, and is very active and fit for her age. When she last had her flu jab it was a new vet and she couldn't believe she was 21. She generally does really well in the classes but at one local riding clubs shows there is a 15 year old grossly overweight "hunter type" which consistently beats her. To add insult to injury it also seems to win the WH class on a regular basis, my daughter is threatening to take her 17 year old fit SJ, who for 5 years was field master/whips horse, into WH to "show them what a proper hunnter is", trouble is if this same horse beats her I think she would explode

Lucy and i do workers at local level and most people are shocked that she actualy goes hunting. She is normaly beatern by a pony that has never seen hounds in its life i think in a workers class they should bring hounds into the ring to sort the men from the boys!! (maybe not i think everyone else would prob die)
