i'm thinking of having some semen sent over from america and was wondering what the cost would be from this end for the vet
Depends on:
1. The vet, their competency, ability, and how hard/well they work
2. Your mare, her age and fertility etc.
3. The semen, its fertility, the dose size (sperm numbers), where it was frozen, how it was handled during and after transit, how it is thawed, handled and inseminated at the time of breeding...
Lots to consider.
Most vets will charge £200-£400 per cycle for frozen, so let's take an average of £300 per cycle. Chances are it will take you 2-3 cycles, and depending on the age of your mare and how she reacts to the insemination she may need additional treatment which may not be included in your vet package. I'd budget for £1000-1500 for vets costs, and then feel happy when you come in under that.
Merry Christmas!
