I'm searching for a stallion for Hattie, it will be her first foal so I thought AI would be better, but lots of the stallions I'm looking at say POA for their AI services will it be more expensive than natural covering?
alot of vets and ai centres do packages now which will give u a gd idea of prices. it can b very costly but i no some studs who dont charge for ai if there semen is from there own stallions
If you are using one of the studs stallions there is no reason why it should cost any more.
We certainly dont charge any extra, as we treat them the same as a natural cover mare.
They will get teased the same so no need why it should be any dearer at all
We dont charge anymore than a natural service because it our chose to AI if the mare comes to us. The vet also does a competitive package which would recomend even if natural. Most AI centres these offer a reasonable package so neednt be too expensive.
Thanks. I'll talk to my vet about it all. I'm looking at stallions at my local AI centre as my bosses vet works there as I can find out about the stallions.
My mare was AI'd this year. I used a specialised AI stud, they offered a package, which included all the scanning, imsemination, any hormones or drugs needed to help her along! This cost £280 for the first cycle and £210 for any additional cycles. The package didnt include things like semen collection I also had to pay the stud fee for the stallion and keep fees for when she was at stud. It did work out to be very expensive(especially as she didnt hold!!) but the care and service she and i recieved at the stud was really good.
