Can any of you experienced breeders tell me what to check for here please? I will be using chilled semen. What dieases should I check the stallion has been tested for and is there anything the semen needs testing for? I have a shortlist of 3 stallions: one is with a big well-known stud and I'm sure everything will be done properly, the other two are much smaller outfits and I feel I need to check this. Thanks for your help.

All semen should be shipped with health papers that your vet checks before inseminating. Unfortunately it seems this doesn’t always happen- I had semen arrive last year with none from a very well known sET up in the EU. If it arrives without papers then it can’t be used. Waste of everyone's time and money. Definitely worth checking!

Thanks everyone. I will go with the bigger set up as they routinely test for these and do their own collection. Other two seemed a bit uncertain about everything due to the covid restrictions.

So I have asked the 2 stallion owners about the EVA, EIA and CEM. Both say their stallions were tested neg for these last year and did not live cover any mares last spring/summer, so will not be re-testing this year. Is that good enough?
