Aims for 2009!! And how has 2008 season been for you?

My 2008 aim was to get a 1st in show jumping. And I did in the 95 class. I was also a late entry and I didnt have time to walk the course. 2007 I couldnt even remember a course after walking it. So that was a very proud moment.
I also tried a bit of showing and came first in the working hunter. It was such bad weather and my horse was the only horse to jump clear so I was even more proud.
We also came first in show horse.

We havent improved our dressage much to be honest but thats my aim next year to get a 1st.

I have had a great year and still have lots more fun shows and events to do...

My aims for 2009.
- Get to intermediate eventing championships on the new horse (not asking much then eh?!
tongue.gif
)
- Get round a novice BE event
- Jump foxhunters

smile.gif

HIGHS:
-Getting Hattie sound to be able to get *hopefully* 5 events in at the end of this season
-Winning our first event out with a 27 dressage and double clear at Burnham Beeches Intro
-Winning Firle PN with a double clear, our first PN win and only second event this season
-Being given the ride on a gorgeous coloured pony and winning both the Riding Club junior area horse trials qualifier and then winning at the champs as well
grin.gif

LOWS:
-Not finding a replacement for Fiddler
-Losing Hattie for most of the season a week before Stilemans PN

HOPES FOR 2009: (i dont plan anymore - its not worth it after the last 2yrs!!)
-KEEP HATTIE SOUND!!!!
-Take Hattie Novice poss. at S of E next spring
-Get to PC Open Champs - dressage and eventing
-BSJA this winter at Discovery and Newcomers
-Improve her dressage - hoping for consistent mid to low 30s next season
-ride like less of a muppet and more like a useful jockey!
tongue.gif

-ENJOY the season!
smile.gif

Highs
Mr. G becoming much more balanced, mature and muscley.
Picking up the jumping again - he's happily popping 1m-1m10 grids...just want to take him out on a ticket now!
Team dressage.

Lows
My shockingly low number of outings due to lack of transport, I don't think I should be posting in CR considering i've had less than 10 outings this year. Will be the same again next year unless I can get the equity from my trailer.
Waste of BD annual membership for above reasons.

Goals for '09
Acquire some transport!
More BD at Novice maybe looking at an Elementary at the end of the year.
BN on a ticket, would love to try him round Disco if things go to plan.

2008 - wanted to get out eventing. Due to problems with transport letting me down (chaffeur found different things that were far more interesting to do than take me out after having promised), been set back by about four months. But have entered Oasby, and got in. Will give it a go, but will prob be eliminated. But on the plus side have had horse out doing 3ft xc and sj.

2009 - Lots more eventing. Want to try and get horse up to novice level if possible. Not sure if it will be possible in one season, but hopefully if horse takes to eventing!

God what a year for Fee and I!!

Highs:
- Finally starting to get things together with Fee!
- Five DCs at Discovery and qualifying to jump 2nd rounds next year!!
- Our first ever DC at newcomers!!
- Winning over £100 this season, more than she has ever won with anyone else!
- Qualifying for scope.
- Jumping two DCs at the Arena UK festival and qualifying for the finals.
- Qualifying for the Am Champ second rounds.
- Buying a project horse, something i have always wanted to do!

Lows:
- Being off injured for two weeks.
- A slow start to the season, giving me doubts that i would ever get it together with my mare!

Goals for 2009:
- Come back from injury.
- Gain three more DCs at newcomers and *think* about jumping the second rounds.
- Jump the Disco second rounds.
- Be consistent at NC and start jumping 1.15s and Fox (argh!!)
- Jump the Novice derby at Hickstead
- Sell my project horse to a nice home and hopefully make a bit of money!

2008 has been a fab year for me, bound to have a disaster soon as I just don't have years like this.
grin.gif

Highs
Buying new lorry
Passing HGV test (should have been the other way round but hey ho)
Bought nice 6YO (Varleen) who is now jumping DC newcomers
Winning 1m on Varleen
Being placed 2nd and 4th newcomers with Tica
Qualified both for Scope

Lows
Having no social life due to being so busy with work and horses!
blush.gif

2008/2009
Progress up to jumping foxhunter with both
Aim for winter novice and blue chip qualifiers

Ooh, just had an email saying I've been selected for the area team!

2008 (with the 6y.o)
Highs:
Won WH and ridden class at first comp this year
Won a couple of prelims and 2nd in a few novices
RC dressage team (came second first time out at novice)
Started jumping unaffil open SJ (~1.05) with clears or 1 down
Clear every time out XC (with a few intro runs)
XC schooling over novice
Lows:
Injured in stable night before RC SJ team event and torn cornea (now fine)
Currently off due to 'immune mediated inflammatory lung disease' so no more comps this year

2009 Aims
No injuries!
Do RC event team (missing last comp this year as its next week!)
Hopefully BE nov by end of season
Blair Atholl WH qualifier (clear would be nice but just fancy a go!)

2008 has been a good year for me. I haven't competed at all for several years, so I have enjoyed getting back into the swing of things slightly! Main acheivements...

- acquired a horse!
- although horse is 5y/o ex racer, she is coming on nicely...
- XC schooled around the intro courses at coombelands and tweseldown
- scored 69% in a dressage test (only walk and trot... but nevermind!)
- SJd happily round local 2'6-2'9 competitions
- entered, and planning to go to, pulorough training BE event

Next year...

I need to acquire some transport, but money is holding me back. Hoping to hunt lightly over the winter, plus lots more dressage and showjump training.

- want to intro event start of the season, and hopefully end with a PN or two.
- get a few dressage points! I think she is quite capable of this (if Ferd could, Tia certainly can!)
- join in with the riding club teams and competitions - hopefully the novice eventing team, would love to do the 2 day at offchurch.

Then she'll probably be for sale to the right home at the right price really... my favourite thing is bringing on youngsters, but I can't keep two - so we'll see what happens...

I've had a pretty good year with Frankie, everything seems to be coming together finally!

Highs
A 1st and 2nd at BE Novice from 3 runs
11 Points this year and Qualified for 2 NRF's next year
DC at Novice - 1st one!
Passing my HGV licence
Sold old lorry and getting new one built

Lows
Frankies allergies played up alot in August meaning no parties
Having 4 Show jumps down at SLM!
Falling off out hacking when a cat jumped under frankie and he thought it was a monster!
Breaking down on the way to Wilton, being stuck for 4 hours in lorry on hottest day of 2008!

Aims for 2009
Qualify for Gatcombe!
Do at least one CIC*
Do first Intermediate
shocked.gif

Qualify for RC champs
SJ more consistant
Get BD points/BSJA winnings (need to register first!)
-hmm not too much to do! but most important keep frankie sound and happy

2007 was full of dramatic highs and lows for me (lost my remaining Advanced horse in May which knocked me sideways, won 2 PN events on my baby horse including at WEst Wilts on an 18!) 2008 has been quieter but not very exciting and, overall, not great really...

Promising youngster injured himself in spring - finally diagnosed in June after series of poor runs which have ruined his form, and has been in field ever since
frown.gif
Less-promising youngster has confirmed his dislike for XC and is now officially retired as an eventer, but has at least done well SJ with wins at BN, DC at Disco etc so hopefully will find new home as SJ (PM me if you want to know more
wink.gif
) Good news is little naughty horse has taken to eventing like a duck to water, going from zero to CIC* so far and entered for Aldon
shocked.gif
He doesn't really see the point in dressage yet but I'm working hard and feel he is capable of a good test in the future. If we can crack this and stop having one down SJ I have high hopes for 2009
smile.gif

2009 aims: 1) Hope they all stay sound and happy. 2) Bring promising youngster back in to work, do some Novices, put his record back together and sell him for megabucks
smile.gif
3) Take naughty little horse Intermediate pretty early on, do another 1* in Spring, money permitting, and aim to do CCI** in the autumn. We'll see
wink.gif

It's been onwards & upwards this year -

High's
Having enough confidence to showjump on grass at the beginning of the year (big one for me) (2'3" - "2'6")
won both the classes.

Did our first 3' class ever (and on grass) mid summer.

Conquered a couple of scary ditches at our local xc venue.

Jumped into water at xc training.

Did our first intermediate (3') RC ODE

Did our first intro at Aswanley and second at Wee burgie. - completed both.
smile.gif
smile.gif
smile.gif
and with that ultimate goal for 2008 was achieved.

Lows -

none really, I have a lovely pony and, touch wood, nothing has held us up this year.
flat work can still be a bit ropey, but that's just details.
didn't manage to lose any weight, but at least didn't put any on.

Aims for 2009-
get more brave.
get turbo boosters
lose a stone
do at least 2 intros - hopefully 4, money and time permitting
get double clears (or at least clear xc) at aswanley & burgie next year.
get a lorry (that may be wishful thinking)

F x

I love these posts as everyone sounds so upbeat and positive, even after the lows that we've all had.

So here's my contribution....

2008 has been fab:

Both Baydales have upgraded, which was one of my main aims. I would have loved to have done another advanced on Hector and an intermediate on Ross before the end of the season, but there's no hurry. Little Baydale is backed and looking like a suitable candidate for BYEH next season.

I've got lovely hunters for my OH and those that weren't right for him at the end of last season have gone to great (and more suitable!) homes.
wink.gif

I've had masses of fun teaching and helping out with ponies needing a bit of Baydale Boot Camp, so that's very satisfying.
smile.gif

Aims for 2009: more of the same! Loads of teaching, training, competing and fun fun fun.
cool.gif

Oh and, no pressure boys, but if Jupiter could qualify for the 4yo BYEH final, HH do a two star and H a three star, I'd be a very happy mummy.
tongue.gif

Probably one of our most successful years.Rafi got placed in two classes at BD winter champs .
Hoped to start BD elem. and have done 4 and won all of them.
Plus he has qualified for next years BD winters in Spillers.
Penfold ,wanted to do well in BE novice and he has gone really well and now has points.
Both did the RC champs and both were placed.

Next year is going to be financially difficult because of peronal problems, why when you get the horse of a life time can you not afford to take advantage of it.
Hope Rafi can move up to medium by the end of next season.
Penfold ,I don't know , can't afford to send him to RVC to see if they can help his breathing problems , so if he struggles then he may have to retire. He is not ill but ,they think , displaces his soft palate, no idea why at 12 years old he suddenly started to do it?

Highs - getting a decent trainer - "tough love" style... Retraining my old chestnut polo pony to event - when we can sort his SJ, he'll probably be quite good, is amazing at dressage and won his first BD Novice with 70+! Discovering my grey horse is amazing - bought him as a companion but he outclasses the chestnut in every way. Did a DC at his first ever event at PN last weekend, I was away but heard he made it feel easy, trainer thought he should have gone straight in at Novice! Have never had a horse quite like him, he just storms across country.

Lows - getting eliminated for 2 refusals at the first jump on my first BSJA with the chestnut. SJ in general with the chestnut - he needs to jump every day really or he behaves like he's never seen poles before. Losing my little cat to the road
frown.gif

Aims - get that fat old chestnut clear at BN and do an Intro/PN BE on him. Take the grey horse Novice BE - which ought to scare my parents witless
smile.gif

Bailey & I have had an amazing year, doing things I never ever dreamt we would do! Last year I was too scared to ride him- I jumped him for the first time in well over a year on new years day and since then we have been out dressaging, SJ, XC schooling and even managed a BE Intro!!

Had lots more planned for the end of the year- another Intro, MK 3day, qual for the AF but he wrenched his tendon sheath and is now out of work until the new year
frown.gif
(X-Rays also picked up unrelated degeneration to the joint
frown.gif
)

My aim for 2009 will be to bring him back into work and keep him sound and happy- hopefully enough to be a dressage pony
smile.gif

2008

Lows
Having to have my lovely Socks' put to sleep after 10 great years together

Highs
Buying my 5 year old mare at Goresbridge
Curing her of phobia of putting on bridle
Curing her (almost) of mounting problems
Turning her into a confident hacker (had some help here)
Starting showjumping and completing our first 90cm with 4 faults

2009
Compete and get double clears at 1m (lowest affiliated here)
Get confident at 1.10m
Do an intro level ODE
Have fun
Possibly buy a new trailer

2008

Highs
Starting competing again after losing most of 2007 to a badly bust leg and ankle
Finding a nice youngster to bring on
6th at West Wilts 4 year old class with a double clear (with above youngster)
Good form with Sarnie 6 double clears out of 7 at Intermediate and being placed no lower than 14th.

Lows
Missing our advanced runs due to a slight niggle
Going splat in the main ring at our biggets local agricultural show

2009
Keep the horses sound and healthy
Have some advanced runs with Sarnita and aim at a 3*
Start the youngster eventing and aim to qualify for the Pavo finals

Well after a disasterous year last year I started this one by not renewing BE membership, with the aims of not feeling pressured to do anything, but just to go out there and have fun - which on the whole is what we've done. Last year made me realise that the real achievement in competing is - as my friend's mum is always telling me - "just getting there" - driving thro' the gates on the morning with a sound, fit, happy horse ready to compete and enjoy the day ahead.
So my highs were :
*Being on the "people's choice" winning quadrille team at a local gala eve
*Getting started in DTM - not a succesful start, but I am now in love with the discipline!!
*Winning a masterclass with Steve Hadley and being featured in Horse Mag!!
*Being placed at RC Area Dressage
*Going to our RC's first ever Camp
*Being part of quadrille team going to Addington next wkend!
Lows were :
-Not even coming close to doing an Intro on a ticket for fun!
-Not compounding what I learnt with SH by getting out to compete in SJ (yet!)
-Forgetting my RC Area Dressage test twice - which let my horse down and cost us dearly!
Aims for 2009 :
*Do more DTM (especially pairs with my friend!)
*Register and compete at BD
*Compete at unaff ODE's and aim for a BE Intro
*Continue to improve SJ
*Qualify for RC Champs in at least dressage!
*Have a sound, healthy and happy horse. Everything I do make sure its for fun and with no stress!!
grin.gif

Good luck to everyone for your aims for next year - look forward to hearing all about them!!

Not many highs for this season as have been off injured with a broken leg which refuses to get better.Got more surgery in a weeks time so hopefully that will mean I can then recover. Its been nearly a year now which is rather depressing.

Next year I just want to go out and compete, even if its just a walk and trot test!! I want to stay sound and off the injury list. If I get back to fitness I would like to say I would fulfill my aim of going BE novice on my old horse which I never got a chance to do before my accident, but Im not getting my hopes up.

I started riding B in Jan after 2 year break and I found things quite hard to begin with. I found that I put myself under quite a lot of pressure to do too many shows too soon and was beginning to resent showing. I chilled out a bit and learnt to just enjoy riding again and it has worked wonders, we have had a fab season with the highlight being 3 1st places and a championship sash at one of our shows - never done so well in my life!! We have just found out that we qualified for Festival of Champs at the end of oct so 2008 isn't quite over for us and I have decided to be brave and do open WH instead of ridden hunter class.

Aims for next year are for me not to stress and push myself too far again but to continue to enjoy as I have been doing. Also to try and get some regular transport thats not costing £90 a time!! then I can get around more and begin doing some local ODE's and SJ as B has so much ability but we can't get anywhere!!!!

HIGHS
Getting youngster round Belmont, and Sapey clear XC
Him getting a 27 dressage at Chepstow
Show Jumping him 1.20 the other day when we tried "shock tactics" as was being lazy at 1.05!
Clear round Rodbaston PN

LOWS
Missing Berrington due to horse sick
Both Sapeys and CM and Monmouth to weather
Still hints of "cowardly lioness" even after a trip to boarding school with a pro.

AIMS (for rest of yr and next)
To complete (lets not be too ambitious!) Dauntsey, Rodbaston, and Broadway.
Hunt/BD sucessfully through the winter.
Be consistant at jumping double clears next season

For everything to stay sound and well and safe!

2008- What a year!
Lows- I'm not saying lows, but rather things I have learnt.

* Give my pony much more respect, however tempting it is to drive an easy to do pony offered to me, Pip is the way forwards.
*Traveling for 2 days in 40degree heat with broken air con with the cab going up to 45degrees isn't fun, but Pip copes with it much better than me.
*Who you know rather than what you do is unfortunately important.
*Self-advertisement is almost essential for some things
frown.gif
.
*Retiring gives you much more respect than pushing it. OK you can't be at the top if you only go when the conditions are perfect. There will always be another event, but there will only be one Pippy.
* As strong as Pip is physically, he will always need to be treated sensitively to keep him mentally in this planet.

Highs:
*Pips super behaviour all year, not a single event did we get the problems that used to be usual behaviour for him.
*His dressage is cracked. Last year every event we were in the bottom few after dressage, this year here we have been 2nd or 3rd after every dressage, averaging 70% and we even held it together in Austria.
*Although on paper our XC has got worse, he is balancing himself now so I am hopeful over the winter we will get back to our previous times, but doing it in a better way.
*His cones is improving. Now, If I drive well we can get clears, and got our first clear in Austria.
*Being placed every event we have competed in, except for when I retired him although we were in line to be placed.
*4th in his only ridden dressage, best pony and best junior.
*Austria- 5th in the Junior world championships.
laugh.gif

*Best British in the XC in Austria.
*Proving so many people wrong.

2008 really was the year of my life.
grin.gif
No matter what politics get in the way, or what people say. In 2006 I got a scruffy pony, with a reputation so they hadn't bothered to drive him single. People said he was dangerous, they said he would never be suitable for anyone to drive let alone a novice junior who had never driven before. Very little ability, bad attitude and too many issues to be worth the effort. Together we learnt by trial and alot of error and now in 2008 I have a pony I am really proud of who can hold his own on the world stage. Even if he never does well again he has proved his worth as a competition pony. It certainly wasn't down to skill, it wasn't even as if I was a good rider before- I was always in the bottom groups at pony club. It wasn't down to amount of lesson- I had one lesson when we first put him single, one march 2007 when I got him to go on an outline, one August 2007 when I learnt to balance him, one early 2008 when the trainer told me he wasn't worth trying for Austria and the training just before Austria when I thought I definitely wasn't going so might as well take him. The trainer that said he wasn't worth trying with couldn't recognize him and said he should go! Its not even been through turning up to events, I did one in 2006, 2 in 2007 and then 2 events 2008 before Austria. It has just been a little determination, commitment and alot of luck. People may say that is stupid, but so many things with horses are due to luck. Looking back at what he was like, if someone I knew got a pony like him I would tell them what everyone told me, but there is no doubt about it. If I had got another pony, I wouldn't have had the 2008 I did. dear god I love this pony too much.
blush.gif

Aims for 2009:
*Keep Pip happy and sound.
smile.gif

*Enjoy it.
grin.gif

*Qualify for, and be placed in the National championships as a Novice.
cool.gif

*Do a run as Intermediate.
shocked.gif

* Teach Pip/Learn how to do collection so we are on track for the year after.
smirk.gif

* To learn when to stop, as in don't over cook schooling, or the season. I tend to push things too far and end up ending on a bad note.
blush.gif

* To 'watch and learn' at some of the world championships next year.
laugh.gif

* Train for a week with someone who likes me in belgium

I haven't finished my season yet! But...

Highs:
- It's been a fab season with Zeb, he has really taken to Eventing and I love riding him more and more
- He has already got his first BE point
- My riding has improved as a result of riding him
- NO MORE SCHOOL! Finished A levels and now being a bum before getting an eventing job

Lows:
- being squashed at Wilton

Aims for 2009:
- get myself into a yard where I can have all the best opportunities
- get upto the open class in JAS (no reason why not) and win!
- I would love zeb to be intermediate by the end of next season
- improve!

HIGHS
- Afflilating younger horse at BE and him taking to it like at duck to water
- Moving up from Intro to PN after 4 runs and now N not looking out of sight
- Won A Stephen Hadley sj materclass for magazine
grin.gif

- Had Yogi B lesson and he scared pants off me but horse again rose to event
- Not to many off day for big horse
grin.gif
grin.gif
grin.gif
and being sweetly to jump/flatwork
- Buying truck
- Winning a few rossies this year and ending at RC champs and placed
- Placed at RC horse trial with DC
- Doing RC camp with both and not getting killed
grin.gif

LOWs
- Horse keeps casting himself in stable!!
- having feet issues!
- Bl00dy horsey politics in RC and not getting pick for RC team (reason given cos i won areas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and gone to champs this year)

Aims 2009
Too have happy and sound horses mostly, and then i'll think about what comps we can try for

QR: I think cumulatively there's been a huge amount of highs on HHO! Well done all!

Our highs of 2008 included moving back here! Both horses becoming fully fledged international eventers ;-), Liberty maintaining his never-unplaced at 1* record, at the last national event of the season they both did excellent dressage tests and jumped double clears, L won his class by a country mile and William was third in his even though I went very slowly cross country and got 15 time pens or something. Then they finished up with a clear each at a CIC**.

I would really like to sell Liberty sooner rather than later, and next year see if I can find events within reasonable distance to get W's qualifications for 3*, and hopefully have done at least one CIC*** by the end of the year on him. Must sort out my nationality over the winter as would love to aim for Kentucky 2010 or europeans 2011 with him. (Who said we couldn't dream big!).

There really weren't many lows, apart from Deco not getting in foal again, but she has now been loaned out so hopefully will enjoy a useful life for some years to come.

No particular highs for this year, apart from coming back from abroad and riding my lovely horse again.

Aims for 2009? aim to be competing at NC, and maybe even Foxhunters. Really want to compete in the B and C class at Bramham next year, so have that as my main aim. Would like to go double clear round a PN (if I can afford the entry!!) as only been round one before and had two stops which were entirely my fault.

Thats it really, oh and maybe get the old ned out a bit more, do some local shows and maybe a veteran class if I make the effort to get him shiny
smile.gif
