Does anyone wear their air body protector over a standard body protector or wear it on its own? I/m looking on Ebay and it states that it should be worn over a standard body protector.
The rules of any competition in xc, hunter trials etc or most training state a body protector must be worm.
The air jackets are worn over out of choice, they are not compulsory like the BP.
The only time people choose to wear them without a BP underneath is normal riding hacking etc.
I wear my HitAir without a BP underneath to hack and school my boy. I checked that this was okay to do and it is. I don't notice it, unlike a BP which makes me feel constrained so I see it as a way to be a bit safer without noticing.
As SoH says, for competition, xc schooling etc, you MUST wear a level 3 BP. Air jackets are optional extras. If you wear it on its own it may well save you some bruising and soreness in the event of a 'normal' fall, but if a horse lands on top of you, the only thing preventing your chest from touching your spine is your rib cage. There isn't a blow up bag in existence that will win against 600kg of horse
