I have found the cure for falling off – get an air jacket

I love my air jacket – but at this moment in time I am finding it difficult to love my horrid horsey! Hes had an easy few weeks due to bad weather and Christmas and new year and it is starting to tell.

He is sharp, he is spooky and I ride every horse in my Point 2 regardless.

Last night we were having a canter which rapidly turned into the wall of death with the end result being him going from a canter to a dead stop and spinning round to face the opposite direction! I nearly carried on the way we were going and both legs were on the same side, somehow managed to get my bottom back in the saddle. All I could think was ‘I’m going to fall off and explode and need to get a new bottle – at £18 a go id rather not  ) isn’t it amazing how the thought of spending money can make you have an amazingly sticky ar** !!

Have found exactly the same thing with mine! Has included grabbing ponies ears and shoving myself back in the saddle because I don't want to look stupid and cost myself £18. Guess its effective either way :)

I'm exactly the same.
No damn way am I going to fall off and pay £15 for a replacement canister if I can help it :D

Yup, done it twice in the last year out hunting and once on my field and last week on my arena. It's brilliant :D

Me too :biggrin3:

Having replaced a canister then nearly fallen off a couple of weeks later there was no way that baby was going off. I hung round her neck and even undid the air jacket but couldnt reach the lanyard to unclip it. I could hear the photographer taking pics so with a mouth full of mane I asked him if he could 'flip me back on'
I did post the pic but got told off by fatty :smile3:
Her owner was at the top of the hill watching and actually said to some other people that I wouldn't fall off as I was to tight to buy another canister - she was right.

The pic is in my Tilly tots album titled 'hanging on' if you want to see a 40 year old defying gravity :biggrin3:

Copyright ! No it was my friends. She was holding a section A, unshod 2yr old for the vet who was giving her her boosters. Pony reared up, knocked friend over and trod on her leg. Friend was wearing jeans. 2mm either way would of got away with it. Massive hole in leg and she won't show it so I dont ask. She still rides her horse though.

I thought that was a bit insensitive, then I saw the pic. Hope the leg owner is feeling better :)

Lol :biggrin3:

Considering since i lost my confidence slightly, i seem to bail before the horse even does anything but am ridiculous with money and £18 is something i wouldn't want to pay out alot.. i clearly need to to get myself one of these! could overcome my fears!:D

holy poo id never have managed to get back upright from there my mare would've made damn sure of that!!!

The thought of having to spend £18 (or 3 bottles of wine :wink3:) made sure I wasn't giving in without a struggle :biggrin3:

Honestly I must of been like that for a good minute. The fence judges were killing themselves laughing so were no help whatsoever, all I could hear was the camera shutter clicking away. If he hadn't of helped me Id of got off. I was more worried about scaring her setting it off as she was only just 5 and only her second xc. Good pony for standing still :smile3:

I agree with OP, although it is not the cost of the canister that has brought me back from the breech, it has been the scary BANG and ensuing rib crush so you can't breathe feeling, or fear of, that has me clinging on.

Stupidly I once nearly fell off and as I flew through the air I had time to think "at least I am not wearing my air jacket" before my hero horse caught me!

Carefreegirl, that is a fantastic photo - what determination! :biggrin3:

I brought mine and the next day the horse went lame, it's now hung up in the garage! Does that count!

Hah I think so, mine's never been worn as shortly after I bought it, my horse broke herself and has been out of work for the entire year! These air jackets really are good, aren't they?!

I'm sure these air jackets have a funny affect on a riders ability to stay on. I used to fall off Elvis all the time, since investing in an air jacket I haven't come off! (Touch wood)
