Air Purifiers for stables

To cut a long story short, my pony's RAO has got not better despite lots of drugs, so I really need to try and improve his environment ASAP. He's already on haylage, dust free bedding and the stable is kept as clean as possible. Unfortunately, 24/7 turnout really isn't an option at the moment but I will be looking for it when I move areas. Come spring he will be out overnight and only in 8am-2pm which will help. In the meantime, I'm trying to improve the air quality in his stable as much as possible. So, has anyone used a portable air-purifier? Do they work, and which one should I use? Would only used in the day when someone is around.

Following with interest. I’ve not tried a purifier but my horses rao is also not under control at the moment.
can I ask what drugs you’ve tried? Mine is on antihistamines and inhalers which have helped improve it but I need to call the vet tomorrow to see if there is a steroid shot or something to calm everything down again.

I've used the powdered steroids, inhalers, antihistamines and I'm going to buy him a nebuliser so the drugs can get into his airways more effectively, but the vet was clear that it's the environment that will make the biggest difference.

I would think the dust in the stable would overpower a purifier.

If it were me, I would prefer a stable with a breeze going through. So, door one side, open window the other, and a turret in the roof that allows stale air to escape.

As well as dust free bedding (as far as possible) and soaked/steamed hay/haylage. Plus hoovered walls/ceiling.

Could you plant lavender and rosemary plants around the stable ... the only problem is they like to eat them. The alternative is to plant elsewhere and just bring in cuttings .... I keep the trimmings from my lavender hedge’s annual haircut and add to their bedding - it make my life nicer even if it doesn’t do anything!!!

Does his stable share air space with other stables? I found this a huge problem when on a livery yard as whatever you do there are still allergens in the air space. Which bedding are you using? I thought paper was dust free but apparently some types are not and so far the best shavings I have found are Bedmax. I have also hoovered walls/ceilings before now but my ponies stable is very like Red-1 described with large doorway, back wall partially Yorkshire boarding and vent all along the top bit of the roof and I have found compared to other stables I've used over the years the dust build up is greatly reduced. Good luck I hope you can find a solution.

Maybe some sort of fan to aid air movement, I know a racehorse trainer who uses fans as his yard is in a dip and the air doesn't move enough.

I understand how it important to have clear air at kept. My horse had some problems with lungs and its life depended on quality of air. All out team tried to find ways how to achieve enough clear air, but it is difficult when you live in a big city. One time we read a post that someone uses Ozone Generator for this aim. In google we found that there are so much type of it and it is so hard to select the nice one for kept. Only on damagecontrol-911.com we read the info how to choose the best one how does work this technology. Hope that with your pony everything is okay.
