Someone on here was asking after a picture of Alan Oliver recently...well I can go one better !

The following video contains footage of Alan jumping in the Berkshire Area International Trial on Red Admiral back in 1955

The horse at 01:53 is Red Admiral...and the next horse after that is Prince Hal ridden by Pat Smythe !

I have just spent far too long looking through those - what a great link, thanks!

I've got albums full of original photos of the sj teams from the 50s and 60s, including quite a few of Alan Oliver, if whoever it was hasn't found one.

Thank you so much for that, brings back a lot of memories. If you scroll down and watch the one of the Queen at HOYS, there's some wonderful footage, including the d'Inzeos, Pat, my old boss, Wilf and Alan. Lovely to see them again although I expect they'll get slated for being so 'un-polished' in style now! Thanks again.

I missed this one the first time I looked

In my tackroom I've got the original photo of the Queen presenting Tom Barnes with the trophy (he was only 18 at the time

). I never knew this footage existed, it has made my day to see it.

Tom's horse, Sudden, went on to be on the British team with his sister as well - Sudden was a bit of a carthorse to look at, particularly in his winter woollies, but wow could he jump

Thank you so much Rambo, I really enjoyed the videos. That was a real trip down memory lane.
I have always wanted to see Stroller winning his silver medal, I don't suppose you know of any footage? Thank you again.

Thank you for that link. Lovely watching the things that are still the same today - the army display and the heavy horses at HOYS.

This website is a gold mine for fab old equestrian news/film. There are some clips going back to the 1930's and the crowds even at what are basically gymkanas are huge.
There is much moulah to be made by anyone who will put something like this on DVD especially of the golden age of GB showjumping.
Me first me first please.
