My spare stable is my tack room as well as putting paddocks on the outside i also want to put something on the inside, a lot of break ins in the area, hubby had a great idea of a rape alarm yes i do want it loud! So ie if the stable door was to be opened it would go off but all rape alarms i find is push button, i want somthing that i attach to the stable door via a cord also attaching to the inside of the door if that makes sense, like cable ties plastic type, im not wanting to spend much either as i cant afford too,

You knkow when you but kids a toy from the shop & you have to pull out a platic thing to make it work, sorry best way to descibe,

Thanks all in advance x

Have you considered padlocks which have built-in alarms? I got some from Aldi earlier this year (£8 each I think) - the alarm is as loud as a car alarm, goes off if the lock is jiggled or messed with and can't be turned off without the key.

If it's a stable there is no way you will stop someone breaking in. Best advice would be to ensure all tack and equipment is marked with a micro-chip or Smartwater and also postcoded.
Also get a professional burglar alarm fitted if you want to deter unwanted visitors.

Is it a spate stable next to used stables?I wouldn't want a rape alarm going off and spooking the horses :S

If its further away I can't see why not!

On our shed in the garden, day has a chain lift bar on the inside, so you have to life the chain that is concealed on the side of the roof outside, to lift the bar on the inside out of its holders- you wouldn't know it was there if you didn't know.

Hi,

My spare stable is my tack room too, so there are bars at the windows, and both doors are padlocked. HOWEVER as itis built as a stable not a strong room it is still vulnerable from attack through the tile roof, so I have an alarm.

We now have a posh alarm, but when we first moved in I contacted the local alarm company and explained my situation, and they fitted a simple secondhand system that they had taken out of an old house. You only need the old alarm box and bell, plus we had a new PIR as he said that this was the part most likely to go wrong. We had electricity to the tack room so it was quick to fit, and the whole lot was done for under £100.

As for the noise, we have had several horses next to the alarm box when it goes off accidently (the door is not on the alarm, just the PIR, so if you unlock and go in without remembering it goes off) and I would say that they have jumped less than me! And yes, they are high octane competition animals, but life happens, and they learn to be confident.

You can get shed alarms which are a pad with a key pad and a connector bit that goes on the door frame, when the connectors are separated (when the door is opened) you have so many seconds to enter a code before it goes off. They are decently loud and would likely frighten an opportunist.

I have the same set up - i keep all tack at home with the exception of a cheap bridle. I also bought srorage boxes the size of a bale of hay and put spare things in these hidden in the hay pile
