I have an old old old Legend dressage saddle that I adore, however it is falling apart and will cost zillions to repair so the logical answer is to get a new one.

so............

What Albion saddle has the high cantle, reasonable sized knees blocks and a standard twist. Ive been recommended the K2 or the Slk High head.

However, I do like the look of the Ideal Susannah.

I will eventually get the saddler out and play around with the various models, but just wanted your advice based on your experiences.

(info: for a 16hh, TB who is med wide who has normal withers)

Thanks

The K2 doesn't have big blocks and is flatter. The SLK ultima is the one with bigger blocks and a deeper seat. The Ideal Susannah is very similar to the SLK ultima. For what its worth, I have a Susannah and it is probably the nicest dressage saddle I've ever ridden in. I *think* the twist on the Albion is a bit wider.

Thanks Half step, Ive heard good things about the Susannah, think I may go down that road as it is cheaper than the Ultima. Now doubt horsey will prefer the more expensive one! he he

The twist in the older K2's used to be much wider (the very reason I could not ride in Albions!)- but if you can get a newer/new one on the new Genesis tree they are totally different altogether!- much narrower twist, more close contact- I have 2 of the new ones, and one of them is a med-wide and I love it!- I've never got on with the SLK's as they are a much bigger, bulkier saddle , but I've ridden in the Ultima Platinum and they are lovely too!- but more pricey.

I can't comment on the Ideal dressage as they never fit my horses so have not been able to sit in one!

Good luck with whatever you decide to go with!

I've got an Albion Ultima Platinum and it is really really lovely!! I wanted the Suzannah (due to the £££ saving), it looked a very similar saddle to the Albion, however when I rode in the Suzannah I really didn't get on with it, nor did the horse!

Think you've got the right idea re getting the saddler out and trying them..... :)

I have just got an ideal suzannah. It is my first dressage saddle, but i find it really comfy and am slowly getting used to it. It was the saddle that fit my horse best. I also have an ideal jump saddle that i love. I really recommend ideal saddles. C xx

Another fan of the ideal suzzannah - i tried loads (and some v.£££) but this was the one that fitted my horse. Lovely saddle and agree ideals in general are super saddles - i have two of the VSD's.

I used to have an SLK Ultima Narrow (you can get standard twist ones aswell though) and i also had a Suzannah - to be honest there wasnt really much difference in them, if anything the Suzannah was slightly more compfortable (they were on different horses). However i had hundreds of problems with my Suzannah even though it was brought from brand new (i wont get into it online) and i would never buy one again because of this. Wow saddles all the way for me, lol!
