Albion saddles - is there much difference between 17&17.5?? 17

Am looking for an Albion kontrol medium wide in 17.5. Horse takes 17 in the slk Dressage version but been told its a 17.5 in the jump saddle. I think that is more about my build and the length of her back but if she takes a 17 is there that much differenceif I got a 17 in the jump as well? Or is my a*** gonna be hanging off the end?! :rolleyes:
 
More people have smaller jump saddles, as they are flatter in the seat so feel roomier, than they do dressage saddles. Are the panels on the dressage much longer so you need a smaller seat size to fit the horse, ie not go over the last rib? How tall are you? At 5'9 and about 11 stone I take a shallow seated 17.5 dressage but have had a 17" jump with a flat seat and it was perfect.
 
Helllloooo sbloom and thank you v much for your reply. I am a bit confused and a saddle numpty, so any assistance appreciated!

Horse is a TB type fit, high wither, short coupled, back curves up quite quickly. She's been measured for a 17 in the albion SLK dressage and that is mainly tree shape and being short enough for her back (last rib). So does seem odd that in the jump she's been measured for 17.5 in the albion kontrol but I understand that's cos of the style, which tends to come up shorter.

But am wondering if half an inch really would make that much difference particularly as that's what I've been told to get in the dressage saddle.

I'm 5'4 and 10.5st. With my other horse it's a 17.5 for jump and dressage.

Reason is that I can't find a second hand kontrol in 17.5 but have seen a 17 but wouldn't be able to return it so can't work out if it will fit or not :(
 
I think you could swim in a 17.5 anyway, so not sure why the fitter has recommended it? Albion saddles do often have really long panels, not the best for short backed horses. I'd say a 17" would be better for you to be honest, if I was fitting for you I'd bring out mainly 17" saddles, perhaps a couple of 17.5" especially if deeper seated...
 
Thank you! I'm going to get the saddler out again and try some different ones. And see if there is another saddler covering Herts with a different range.:rolleyes:

I tried her in my other horse's K2 jump saddle today and she went really well, noticeably different and much softer so I think she makes it pretty clear when the saddle is not comfy!
