After my post earlier in the week about all 3 of my horses needing to be seen by the vet and needing treatment Alee went off the vets for a quick once over.
I trotted her up quickly before we left and she looked 100% better but still decided to take her for a once over as she has never really had one and wasn't vetted when I bought her last year.
When we arrived I explained what had been found earlier in the week (different vet practice) and explained my concerns. Vet gave her a once over and found some swelling in the offisde hock and the offisde sifle area. She had a full lameness work up with quite extreme flexion tests etc and didn't have one moment of lameness. She was lunged in the school and it looked as though she had very intermitant signs of lameness on the offside hind but it was difficult to tell as she was so wound up so could have just been her messing around.
She was then lunged on a hard surface which showed a slightly increased uneveness on that side but no lameness to shout about. Vet gave me 3 options but did express that he was a little concerned about the swellings.
1) turnout for 6 months (she is only 3 but felt that this was brushing a potential problem under carpet)
2) work harder at home to exaggerate problem (too young for any harder work IMO)
3) xray to get to bottom of problem ( I opted for this)
So she was sedated and xrayd and guess what - they found nothing!!!
She had a small area on her stifle that when magnified a lot they could see that the surface of the bone was not as smooth as it should be but the vet said that this was just him being very picky and he is not worried. He feels that she is just having a growth spurt (
she is 16.1hh already) and is struggling with it.
He also made a comment about the grass at the moment, which is messing around with young horses growth as it is so rich at the wrong time of year.
She does have a slight capped hock from an old injury but he is not worried about that and overall said that she is a lovely horse in good condiition.
So Aleeta is having 4-6 weeks off and then will come back into light work again. He also said that he is more than happy with the work I have done so far and doesn't hink I have done too much and agrees that continue riding her lightly till next year then crack on getting her ready for some 4 year old classes after xmas.
So I am one happy mummy today and my girlie is happily grazing in the sunshine.
Just as an after thought 'Spikes' sunburn is clearing up nicely too!!
