Anybody any experiences using it? Does it help maintain condition on it's own? Not affect their temp?
Plan to use it on a relatively calm 10 yrar old mare out of trainning for 3 years and in good condition. Would combine with Pink Powder.
Any thoughts appreciated.

I feed it to my exracer and he seems to do well on it, he looks very well and it does help put on condition/shine :)

My ex-racer is on it through winter with just a balancer and occasional speedi-beet and he does great on it, it doesn't seem to hot him up at all.

Alfa A oil is great for adding calories/condition...it is 12.5mj/kg of energy so equivalent to things like conditioning cubes in calorie terms but Alfa A oil is MUCH lower in starch (this is what fizzes horses up!)

it is only 4% starch compared to some conditioning mixes/nuts which can be 25%+ starch...not great for the old digestive system!

Thanks for your experiences . . . just wondering how you find out how much starch is in a feed? I can't seem to locate it on the back of feed bags. Am I being stupid?!!

Best thing is to phone the feed companies up, they should declare the levels of starch, if they don't they are probably trying to hide something!

I feed my ex racer on alfa-a oil and he does really well on it, he is also fed mix, pony-nuts (in deep winter) and sugar-beet shreds and this seems to suit him well :)

I used to feed my ex racehorse on Alfa A oil and Saracen Releve and he went from being a racing snake straight out of training to looking well filled and shiny and fantastic. He wasn't loopy on it at all. HOwever, he doesn't like oil in food and was leaving most of his feed to his friend who truly didn't need the oil or extra calories. So I've swapped him back to ordinary Alfa A and saracen releve and now he eats it all and bites the greedy friend if he comes near. Having gained the weight on the oil version, he's maintained it on ordinary alfa a but has lost a bit of the shine, although he's still very shiny.
