Hi,

Although I am happy with what I am feeding (she is correct with her current weight), I am looking to reduce the amount of supplements I use.

Have been looking at the above chaff (mainly because I am adding soya oil to her feed at the moment) and was wondering what others thoughts were?

Her current feed is
1 scoop Alfa A (increased if conditon req)
1 scoop Happy Hoof (increased if weight loss req)
1/2 scoop Fast Fibre

100ml Soya Oil
Pink Powder
joint Supplement

Any suggestions would be great!

Thank you

QR- Alfa a oil is very good but recently I've found its changed, it seems to be a bit more dusty/ finer chopped. My horse stopped eating it. Just something to think about, but you could always try it.

My horse has been on Alfa A Oil over the winter, and I've just stopped it as he could do with being a little bit trimmer. His workload has also reduced.

I love the stuff.

She would probably benefit from it being a bit finer as she is an oldie and her teeth arent what they used to be. The dust doesnt sound good though. Have asked for a sample.

I just like the idea of not having to mess about with adding the oil....so lazy!

If the current feed is working and she is the correct weight then stick with the current diet. By changing to alfa a oil you will only be removing the need to add oil, the other supplements will still be the same.

I dont want to change her feed as such, just remove the need for so many supplements so I thought perhaps a high oil chaff would do that as I would no longer need to feed the oil.

I have already cut out cider vinegar and garlic. She needs the pink powder and the joint supplement.

With so many different oil chaffs out there, its difficult to know which one is best.

Alfa oil seems to be the obvious as I am already feeding Alfa A but Spillers conditioning fibre is also like the happy hoof so it was just a case of finding out which one would be best.

why are you feeding happy hoof and alfa a? one of for weight gain and the other is for weight lose you are just wasting your money. i would change up to alfa a oil if you want condition and drop the happy hoof.

The method behind it (because she can be quite stressy), was so that I could adjust the two according to her condition.

For example she is a good doer in the summer and poor doer in the winter so rather than keep changing her feeds I would adjust accordingly. So if she needed to lose a bit of weight I would increase the HH and decrease the Alfa and vice versa.

Do you think this is silly? I am terrible with feeding. It is such a minefield and so many people have different suggestions.

erm i think its a waste of money, you are using 2 products that totally contradict each other. i would stick with the alfa in winter and slowly switch to the happy hoof when the grass starts growing. it will save you money in the long run.
