Been using this for a year now , couple of scoops with carrots and a vitamin and mineral supplement, but someone told me it can cause excitment which we dont want so wondered if anyone had witnessed this in their horses/ponies . we have a 14.2 connie x who can be a bit of a handfull but I haddnt linked it to his feed (dur!) I quite like the dengie feed tho so would a different one be better for him?

Our section B behaviour certainly improved after being taken off alfa a so we took it it was down to the feed

He's always been forward going and when we bought him he was on a high energy mix, we then fed him dengie hi fi lite which was fine but then we tried the alfa a because we thought the oil would be good for a shiny coat which it is but then someone said it can fizz them up!! might put him back on the hi fi lite!!

Has his temperament/ridability altered in anyway since changing him from the Hi-Fi to the AA Oil? If not, then don't change

Also Mollichop do a show shine feed - cherry flavoured I believe. Basically Chaff and oil.

BTW Hi-Fi Lite is molassed - with molasses extract. It's often the sugar in the molasses that affects a horses temperament.

Was your Sec A on Alfa-A or Alfa-A Oil? Plus, tbh, why was a Sec A on AA anyway?

he was a Sec B , was working hard, showing and covering mares, was Alfa a oil (i think) am doubting myself now

[/ QUOTE ] TBH I dont think it has , my daughter has been told that it can make them wizzy and she is now whinging about it but I like it because it gives him a lovely shiny coat and he loves eating it! I think she's paranoid about it now ,but Dengie assured me it diddnt fizz them up, I think its just Toto feeling good after having his teeth and back done!!

My mare gets AA-Oil and is NEVER hotted her up at all
she cant have AA cos its molassessed

havnt tried mollichaffs showshine - but i dont think its a 'complete' a feed as AA-Oil
ie: just chopped straw with oil on.

Oil shouldn't be heating, it is a slow-release energy source so good for stamina. SN is right, molasses is a simple carbohydrate (bascially sugar) so gives them an instant energy rush - like us eating a mars bar.

I wouldn't have though Alfa-A oil would be heating tbh, has there been a change in the grass he is on? Routine? Carrots are also high in sugars and can send some horses loopy.
