Alfa-alfa... alpha... no, it's AL-FAL-FA!

Well I used to be as anal as everyone else on this thread :D:p but after spending the last 5 years talking to people from all over the world, who very often didn't speak 'proper' english but I could understand them anyway, I am now offically chilled about the whole thing. I'll have a laugh at some obviously silly things (fantastic breaks, brilliant!) but it doesn't bother me as much as it used to

My Italian in p*$$ poor anyway so who I am to complain? :D

This is true..... Damn you. :D

Let me explain.... This is the time of year the inner Scrooge (ooh that's your name, how funny :)) is allowed out of its pot to satisfy an urge it has held in all year.

A bit like a big fart you REALLY need to do, but you can't because you are only just courting your potential beau. Fast forward a year I.e. Christmas, and one of you has to be first, right? So, I'm first.

Correct. I am saying moaning about grammar in public is like releasing an enormous gas-pocket. Incredibly satisfying, such a relief and not even you, Scrooge, can stop me with your fair and just attitude!

So, fart away, it's Christmas! :D

Bah Humbug.

Sign in Morrison's Buxton last week - "Umberella's" and on the packet of pasta I bought -

per 100g 172 calories, per half pack (pack is 300g) 370 calories.

Errrrr?

Argh I hate it when people use incorrect grammar and punctuation!
A girl at work (who is technically 'above' me but I still felt the need to grammar nazi her!) labelled one of our tupperware boxes "i.d for sensitive tummy's" (I work in a cattery so it's cat food!) This drove me mad for about a day, and on her day off I took the label off and re wrote it correctly... I came into work this morning to see she took my label off, and made a new one! I think I must have offended her, but I still don't get why she felt the compulsion to take my label off! :D I still don't mind if I did offend her though.

It's ok rachi... Some farts just keep coming back :D

You realise that this just means we are all old ! I'm a hopeless texter - it takes me forever to think of the abbreviated word.

I'm not really old, I'm 17 :) I can text very fast while still using proper grammar and punctuation and I can't stand text speak, it takes me a while to work out texts written in text speak :)

Well, i'm Polish, and i've only been in england for 6 years, I also didn't have any english lessons before coming here. I moved here on a saturday and i was sent off on a bus to an english school on monday morning. There were no polish people in my school, i got given a dictionary and was told to get on with it. A lovely english lady that didn't speak or understand polish, taught me the tenses and how to use them. Fast forward a couple of years and i have managed to come out with 14 GCSE's at C and above (only 2 C's) including a B in english language and a B in english literature. Yes my english isn't perfect but i'm still learning. However, the bad use of grammar still annoys me, especially 'bought' and 'brought', it may be because i got stopped mid-sentence every time i said something wrong and got corrected every time, it gets very frustrating and you learn how to speak and use words correctly :) it just shows that even young, non-English people get annoyed at the use of bad grammar :)

I'm 14! But I am one of the dorkier girls at school (and proud of it:D).

I'm a hopeless texter too. I'm slow and insist on every name starting with a capital letter and correct punctuation being used at all times, so it takes me a lot longer to write a text than the average 14 year old...:o

But did she write her new label correctly?

Lmao at the herd of d*cks! :D

English isn't my first language either, I'm originally from Hungary and spoke no English when we moved to the US back in 89! I managed to end up at the top of all my English classes in high school and college. So it is doable! I also get really cheesed off when native English speakers start slagging off those from other countries not being able to speak properly, when these same people can't even work out the defence between their/there/they're!

Must be the only thread on HHO where you'll be told off for being 'just and fair' :p

I will join in the farting-fun and confess that I hate reading my sister's and cousin's facebook updates, they write everything as they speak or worse text speak! (shudders) 'yer ano', 'tar hun', 'u out 2nite?' aaaaaahhhhh!!!!!!

You're right it feels so much better now :D

See, I told you so! :D

Better out than in!!
