I have started using this instead of alfa a and speedibeet, but my horses feeds now look like a cow pat! He gets a cup of D + H balancer, half a sieve of alfabeet, oil and supplements.

Im worried that he wont be digesting everything optimally, because there is little need to chew? But if I add a chaff, its kind of defeating the point a bit (and theres no room for another bin in my tack room!)

What do other people think of it? Can any nutrition types tell me if this sloppy feed will be ok, or does he need something to make him chew?

I used to feed Alfa-Beet to my youngsters during winter. The soaked Alfa-Beet with Stud mix and a little Hi-Fi to make the meal a bit more open. I too thought it a little sloppy at the time, but thinking about it many people feed elderly horses soaked cubes made into a loose mash. Doesn't seem to affect the digestive results in those and is recommended by the feed manufacturers.

You can make AlfaBeet a bit firmer if you like by adding a little less water - I feed mine at the consistency of a firm mash. Don't worry about it not being digested properly - if you think about it is probably already in the form that other foods will be once masticated and swallowed!

I know it looks like very sloppy cowpat, but my lot absolutely love it and wont come up for air until they've finished their feeds, so I take that as a sign they like it (a lot)
