Have fed it in the past and found it a useful feed that the horses enjoy. Yes, it is basically alfalfa and beet combined.
It is marketed as a conditioning feed, but is (from memory) 10.5 MJDE/kg, so not as many calories as ordinary Speedibeet or normal molassed beet (both approx 12.5 MJDE/kg). More protein than pure beet though.
I feed Fibrebeet, which is a different manufacturers product but the same thing. All the ones I've fed on it have absolutely loved it (even if it does look like slurry) and really tucked in and licked the bowl out.
Yes it is basically unmolassed sugar been and alfalfa, which of course is what is alfa a is. I'm very pleased with it as a feed, I don't feed mine "cereal" feeds any more, just this with alfa-a and baileys lo-cal. Mine don't need any kind of conditioning feed, and are doing really well (as in they are not getting fat and are looking fit and muscly) on this feed.
My mare (it was bought for) would not touch it, or the rest of her feed if it had been any where near it!! The old pony who we fed it to to use it up wasnt a huge fan either.
Tbh i didnt think it looked much different to if i had soaked my hi fibre nuts!
For me it was a good way of adding moisture to the feed without having to put water in. In winter we used boiling water to make it up in 20 mins so it was nice and warm to mix in! the pictures above were from when I using up the rest of the bag(small amount) in the spring.
I have my 4yr old TB on alphabeet and he does well on it, i do also feed baileys stud balancer and alpha-a with it. keeps good weight on. Its a high fibre no sugar feed, so you get the benefits of condition without the whizzz. When he does more work and the grass becomes less rich i add a 1/4 scoop of conditioning cubes to the feed as i find he just needs that bit more.
Quite cost effective feed too.
Thanks all, might well give it a shot to get some weight on my skinny beast. She likes alfa a but last time U tried wasn't keen on the sugar beet so hoping that the combination of the two will work. Especially as she won't eat her TopSpec unless I mix it in with the Alfa A.
