I've just had two ponies allergy tested and the results have come back today - very alarming really! (Haven't had the actual results to read through yet, just a quick chat with vet).

One was tested due to headshaking issues and he has the obvious high pollen allergy (very allergic to pine trees but there aren't any around here fortunately) and also is allergic to Soya which is a bug*er as we've been feeding him soya oil as part of his rehab for SI injury amongst other things..

The other was tested as she has very sensitive skin and the hair falls away from her face, she has a scabby & scaly main and tail, and feels very hot to touch. She had a skin scrape done a few years ago but it came back negative. Her results say, again amongst other things, that she is allergic to Alfalfa - and of course this is what her Hi Fi Lite is made of!

They are both due to start a 10 month course of injections to desensitise them so I am told...

So, my question is do any of you knowledgeable and helpful peeps out there know of any other chaff type feed that I could use instead? Fortunately she can still have her Leisure Mix and Pony Nuts, and the other pony can still have the Hi Fi Lite and the Pony Nuts but not the Leisure Mix so for him food is not really a problem..

I'll sit back with a cold glass of wine and await a deluge of replies!! And the winner gets to feel the super suede seat of my new Pikeur Candela Jean breeches that have had me purring all day...

Actually what I'll be doing is posting fliers around the village looking for my daughter's lost cat

Same as Babybells suggested, several of the Mollichaff range don't have alfafa in them & linseed oil or meal is a good alternative to soya oil. You could also try one of the grass chops if she isn't on a strict diet, or a handful of bran if she is.

Read the ingredients label of mixes & nuts very carefully as a lot of them contain alfalfa &/or soya. Ride & Relax is alfalfa free but I don't know about soya.

Readigrass, JustGrass and and Graze on all are pure dried timothy grass, no alfalfa in sight. Totally non-mollassed as well (unlike Mollichop which is straw crap drenched in mollases so they eat the stuff). They're all the same stuff but slightly different chopped lengths and 'ages' of grass used. I like the Graze best out of the three.
