I've just been reading the chaff/no chaff thread over in Horse Care & Feeding and it has made me think.
One of the comments on the thread was about feeding a small amount of alfa before riding to stop acid splash - I've always known this but never done it as mine are ridden from the field so should have tummies full of grass - and there my thought process ended!
However, one of mine is on a daily sachet of bute for arthritis and I've just started her on U-Guard to line the stomach in the hope of counter-acting the effects of feeding bute long term and this has been playing on my mind. As her stomach lining probably falls into the high risk category would feeding a handful of alfa prior to riding be beneficial?
I've been looking at Dengie Healthy Tummy - it wouldn't be used as her 'feed' but I could give a handful to all of mine before exercise if it's really thought to be beneficial.
