Horse currently on box rest and so has some pony nuts in a snackball throughout the day.

Just been diagnosed with ulcers and so looking at substitutes to use.

Do horses actually like alfalfa pellets as these would be ideal I think.

have a vague recollection that they are not very palatable?

thanks!

My horses eat them fine. I do soak them though. The bag says you can feed them dry (Dengie) but they swell quite alot so i never would. Badminton fibre nuggets would be safe for a horse with ulcers, although alfalfa is very good i wouldnt risk feeding the nuts dry

I used them dry in a snack ball when mine was on box rest though I soak them when it's part of his feed. They were about the only nut i could find that was sugar free.

There did seem to be some confusion so I contacted Dengie and got they confirmed they were fine to put in a feed ball dry.

The other thing I did was put his Alfa A in the ball which does trickle out but is a pain to put in.

When I contacted Dengie they also sent me a sample to try.

We soak them at work so im not sure if you can feed them as actual pellets, they dont swelle massively though, mine have always eaten them though, but mine will just eat anything

Think I may ring dengie tomorrow and ask them about it and see if they can send me a sample as dont want to end up with a bag and then him not like it!

Dengie say they can be fed dry. They dont swell as much as sugar beet but they do at least double in volume, so i personally would not risk feeding them dry.
