Sos siters mare had a dirty stop in the SJ at a scary filler, but clear round the 2"9 xc so she's pleased.
Little sister clear round 2"3 under twelves and third so she's pleased.
Alfie, bless him was a bit excited today, and tootled off around to the SJ warmup (loudspeakers are terribly scary) and trotted round nicely, prettily and after a huge jump over the first practise, warmed up well, no running out (his new trick since being tried out..have disavowed him of that notion) or anything silly, although we know he's honest when he gets to the fence. He really is like a four year old in terms of education. Went in, a bit wobbly into one, trotted round the corner then managed to canter over two, then trotted over a very scary wall filler, which didn't bother him in the slightest. Did the double, a bit hesitant when he saw the second part but cleared it, cantered over 5 and trotted corner, then cantered 6, over the very scary yellow planks and then kicked on to the last on a slightly odd line and he has his first clear round under his belt!

Bless him, he just isn't quite sure what's going on!
Continued onto the xc, huge jump over the warm up fence, only had two jumps then had to go so not enough warm up. Got a lead through the water leading to the start (had to go through a water jump to get to it...) He ground to a halt at the first fence, then jumped it from a standstill, just wasn't warmed up enough I think. Continue on, little log in a hollow, popped from trot then cantered on, up an irish bank and off, he has such a feeling of 'oh god what's happening!' the poor sod, it is his second xc course so we cantered on, he knew what to do with the blue barrels, then spooked at people before 5 but continue over it, log at six then down a dark scary sunken road no problems, up a big step then a canter up the hill (and no napping although it was beside the sj warmup), over a little rail drop, cantered over barrels and the last fence was the water. We uh...got eliminated as it took him til the fourth go to decided he could go in it, but he did go in and didn't rear/buck etc just turned away giving us 3x ref. But, pleased he went in as he needs way more experience with this and jumped out and finished.
So pleased, disappointed he didn't get round clear as was hoping he would go in first time but since last time sister let him get away with not going in he obviously thought he'd try it again. Just babyness
So he's doing pairs in two weeks time to get his confidence up and then hopefully lots of little sj comps as there isn't much interest so will probably aim to keep him a few months and get come competition experience now, he is very honest so a few clear rounds and he'll be ready to go again.
I am assuming it is normal in babys to take a few runs to get their confidence up? He is very honest when he gets to the fence and there's no badness in him I don't think. Pics coming soon.

Sounds a nice educational run!! And yes, I would expect a few runs before they realise what it is all about!

Onwards and upwards now! Sounds like he was a good boy in the SJing though

Oh yes, very good boy sjing, just keep him straight and he'll jump anything by the looks of it! Good boy xc too, a day at the beach will sort out the water!

Flo was terrible last year at water. A few trips to the beach over the winter really made a diference, and she probably grew up a bit as well. She has had no problems this year at all. There were 3 water fences at Horseheaven yesterday, 2 steps and 1 run in and she went through them all confidently.
In six months you'll be flying through the water.

Fingers crossed! reassuring to know others have had similar issues and resolved them, not doubting too much but shame he couldn't have completed on even 40pens! Ah well, all home safe and well.
