Very quick curious question! Are there any tips to avoid the horses water trough in the field going green? I empty it and wipe it to avoid build up but wondering if there's anything else people may do?
Thanks xx

Looks interesting, I found lots of tiny little bugs swimming about in my trough today, not seen them before, wondering if this might help once I've cleaned it out....contemplating getting a few goldfish otherwise!

Very interesting! Might give it a shot. My trough seems to get so green so quickly and it seems so wasteful emptying it and refilling!
Wonder what the bugs were ?! There are certainly bugs in the field I've never seen before I had horses!!xx

Goldfish do not make any difference, we had some and the trough was dirtier than ever.

I visited a big commercial stud recently and their self filling steel troughs were spotless, I asked how they kept them so crystal clear and was told they put copper sulphate in the troughs. I googled it and decided I was too thick to calculate how much to use, I would think it is a tiny amount and best left to the professionals.

We just scrub our troughs on a regular basis.

Our troughs are fine until the cows go in the field which shares them. Goodness knows what cows do to water but it is full of nasty floating algae on a daily basis.. not allowed to empty it very often (water costs money you know <sigh>) but we find that using a sieve lets us get most if not all of it out, and that is done every day until the cows mooove on.

AA its been a long time since using a trough with goldfish and I feared it would make things dirtier... I'm just going to have to give it a good scrub and hope for the best, will try one of those coin things though, I hate skanky troughs!
