Just wondered if anybody on here has been taught by Alison Short. I think she is based in West Sussex and is a BD Judge. Thinking about going to one of her clinics. Has anybody been to one did they find it beneficial. Thank you.
 
Alison has been training me for about 3 years now and I'd recommend her without hesitation. We don't compete much due to my young family but I know her pupils that do compete do very well. She's great fun, down to earth inspiring, and gets results.

She has clinics at Plumpton College and also does some nr Uckfield. She also travels to clients yards to teach. Her Summer Camps are good fun too.
 
I used to keep my Horse in Burgess Hill and used Alison as my trainer at that time, my horse was very nappy and unco-operative and I had used other well known event riders to help me with him and they more often than not resorted to violence and force which only ever made him worse to the point where he began rearing, after only 2 or 3 sessions with Alison I was able to begin hacking out alone with him safely and happy, All this was achieved without any raised voice or punishment. I went on to compete him successfully at pre-novice eventing. I highly recommend Alison to anyone choosing a new instructor. ask if you want to know more.
 
I have recently started training with Alison. Introduced to her by a friend when riding her horse. I have now continued to have lessons with her and been to her summer camp with my own horse this yr. I too only have good things to say about her. She has the ability to say such simple things that make a huge difference. I definately would recommend her teaching/clinics without hesitation!

I agree, Alison is a great trainer. I've been training with her for about a year now and am really pleased with the learning journey we've been on. She has a natural ability to phrase things in such a way that is meaningful to all, and will go that "extra mile" to ensure her pupils achieve their goals. The clinics and camps are not only a great way to learn and improve your skills, but great fun too! I highly recommend Alison.

I agree as well - Alison has taught me and my sister for about 4 and a half years now, and I have learnt a huge amount from her! She is fantastic at knowing exactly what you are doing wrong and telling you how to correct it in a way you can understand and remember easily. She is always very quick to praise you and your horse, and teaches to your level, so you don't feel pushed to do anything you don't feel comfortable doing. I am very grateful to her for everything she has taught me and all the knowledge she has given me, and I would highly recommend her to anyone.
 
Alison has been teaching me for the last couple of months and she is fantastic and very inspirational. What I really like about Alison apart from her skills as a trainer she really cares and always does that little bit more. She rode my daughter's horse today and not only did she school him brilliantly, she then spent a long time writing down pointers for my daughter to follow the next time she rides him. I would recommend Alison to anybody whatever stage you are with your horse.
 
I too would highly recommend any training day / dressage clinic / camp in which Alison is involved.
I began having lessons with Alison on a pony she owned when I was 10 years old. She taught me a great deal about the basics of dressage, as well as how to care for her pony (which incidentally we went on to buy from her and lovingly owned for many years).
Later Alison travelled the length of the country with me and my mum to find our first horse, and for many years trained us and took us to competitions where she helped us warm up, read tests and helped me understand the Judge's comments.
She also found us the horse we now own, which I have taken to a number of camps run by Alison. We have always had great fun, made many friends and really progressed with our dressage. In the future I have her lined up to help us bring on our youngster.
Alison has a unique way of teaching that I believe really allows the rider to visualise and understand how to improve and ride well. Her way of explaining what would otherwise be quite theoretical concepts is, I think, crucial to what makes her an exceptional trainer.
More than that, she is extremely dedicated and encouraging and her personal manner makes her not only someone who has taught me a great deal but also a very valued friend. She is someone I know I can call in the event of any "horsey emergency" or simply for some day-to-day advice.
In other words, I cannot recommend her enough!
 
I too would not hesitate in recommending Alison as an instructor. I first started lessons with her approx 8 years ago and now although i don't have a horse for having lessons on she is a true lifelong friend and will most definately be the instructor for my new horse when ifind one, in fact she will be looking for me and coming with me to look at potenial horses, i have so much faith in her teaching skills and she knows me very well now.
Her lessons are great, funand always rewarding and that coming from someone with a very nappy and stubborn TB mare. right from the start she has know exactly how to help with her quarks and i have thoroughly enjoyed every lesson i have ever had with her.
The results of her pupils speak for themselves and is brilliant at getting the best form you and your horse as a partnership!!
The summer camp and the winter 2 days training are amazing fun with the riding training and learnig lots from speakers.
Now writigthis is making me very jealous of anyone who is in a position to be taught by this one of a kind, truely inspirational trainer!!!
 
Wow... all these new people... who want to state their view! Shame really, should have left well alone with the established forum member. Now I am just highly suspicious!
