Hi there,

I was given a retired racehorse gelding 7 years old to retrain and sell from a friend of mine. He is a sales agent for thoroughbreds in ireland and he knew of a very quiet tb that he was fond of due to his amazing temperament. The horse wasn't performing well in his late racing career and was going to be destroyed. Be offered to purchase him for me to retrain and sell as long as he made his money back. I agreed and the7 year old tb was delivered to my yard. I spent 6 weeks retraining him, he was stressy and weaved when stabled so I had him living out with ab lib hay along with his grass and 3 fibre based feeds a day, no grain. I had him seen by the farrier, dentist and massage therapist local to me for body work. He was an absolute pet, I would have put my gran on him if she was still alive he was so quiet. I hadn't advertised him but through word of mouth a lovely girl got in contact saying that she was looking for a safe quiet project. I provided her with lots of videos and a viewing that went fabulously. We rode in the arena and went for a nice hack on the roads and she loved him, and organised a vetting for him within a couple of days. He passed the vetting and was purchased with the disclosed vice of being stressed and can exhibit weaving when stabled but the girl didn't mind, she organised a beautiful home where he could live out with a companion 24/7 and was willing to work with the disclosed vices. I had lovely updates from her post collection, they both seemed to be getting on fantastically. 2 and a half weeks later I received a phonecall to say that the gelding had randomly collapsed in his stable when being saddled. He got up seconds later and a vet was called but he showed normal vitals, temp, heart and lungs. Has anyone ever heard of a random collapse before? Upon researching it seems the usual cause is either neurological, a heart condition or sudden onset narcolepsy. He was racing up until I took him on and was vetted before and after every race, he last ran mid June. Looking for advice, I had researched the vagus nerve and vitamin e / selenium deficiency. Wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or can advise me towards a treatment. It has only been 1 isolated incident and an ecg, bloods etc will be performed this week to rule out the obvious.
