all cob haters

I have Sec D, and he's a git

, yes he plays mind games, and he can spin on a sixpence, scared of motorbikes, tractors and little girls walking their dog!

But I love him and he's a cook dude

Lets all keep some perspective here! There are fat and lazy horses of every breed and shape and size. There are also slim and zippy ones. Sometimes people say "lazy" when they really mean safe and slow and ploddy and boring. Some riders like lazy (safe, slow) horses, some don't. Some riders like zippy, electric horses, some don't. Sorry thedunthing but I think your statement was sweeping and not thought through. Not sure if you were bored and hoping to elicit exactly this sort of reply! I have a Section D who is the love of my life not because of his breed or colour or girth size but because of who he is in his head. He looks after me and I look after him. I'd love any other breed of horse that would do that for me but because he's a cob, yes, I love cobs!

Well said BoF!!!!

I have a little bright bay cob (well 1/4 clydie). He is by far the most gentle and kind horse I have had in over 20 years. I would choose him any day over all the other types I have had. He is howeve scared of his own shadow once you are onboard! We go anywhere and try anything and I know the worst reaction I will get is a huge spook on a broncing cob.

Welsh cobs are a different kettle of fish all together, I have had 2, they are a fantastic spirited breed with great ability and tons of attitude, don't be fooled by the word COB!

hehe, to true...I don't think Welsh D's can't really be compared to a proper cob type, WHOLE different beast.

I LOVE my D, and wouldn't have anything else, not even for dressage! I ride the TB's and Warmbloods at our yard and it just reminds me how great my chap is! But he is far from an easy ride, he's challenged me since I got him, probably getting more challenging as the years have gone by, but its made me a much better/braver rider! Though I expect whatever breed/type I got as my first horse would have become a favourite.

Anyway back on point...WELSH COBS ARE AMAZING!!!

I have recently become a bit of a cob fan. Still not really keen on the tow you along, head on the floor, should be pulling a plow types but some of the cobs I have had the pleasure of riding lately have been absolutely lovely. Not heavy in the hand, willing off the leg, intelligent and eager to learn, balanced and fun to ride. In fact, I almost think I might actually buy myself a cob when I have the income to support a horse. They are so practical, straightforward and good fun to have around.

So I take all my 'cob snobery' back as of this moment.

But I do think Welsh Sec Ds are in a league of their own when it comes to the cob. Gorgeous horses.
