All competitors please, event photography...

I can't resist having a look if there is a photographer at an event. If there is a good one with an interesting background or colourful XC fence and we are jumping it well, then yes I would buy one (or more) as a momento.

I would pay between £6 - £15 depending on size

I do like to see my pic displayed then have a look at it on a screen as it saves on extra p&p however, sometimes it is so crowded and people do tend to take ages deciding that I will have a look on the website at home but I am less likely to buy one from home. It is probably as much of an impulse thing as anything else!

I do like a nice action shot, taking off or over a fence - no landing shots but the best picture I have purchased was at an ID show when my OH was showing our yearling. The photographer got a natural shot with him putting his bowler back on after receiving a rosette and he was totally unaware of it being taken. It is a close up of both his and the yearlings head & shoulders.

oh, another thing is that (well, it used to be like this, not sure if it still is) at BE, you get lots of photos back from the lower-level events, but hardly any when you get higher up the levels... presumably because a lot of the pros don't bother buying the pics, i guess. but it's really frustrating to do a good round at A level and not get a pic as a memento, and i'm sure i'm not the only one who thinks that! there are very few photographers at CIC and 3 days, too (or there used to be, hope that's changed now!)

Thank you- I do like the candid/natural shots, theres something about them

No problem!

OI is Open Intermediate so an intermediate level but open to horses who would otherwise be out of intermediate.

IN is Intermediate Novice, so Intermediate Dressage, SJ height between novice and intermediate and XC over a Novice track - it's like a step up!

The same exists between PN and N (called PNP) and between intermediate and advanced (AI).

There are also 'training' level events which are smaller than intro and I would guess are likely to be a real goldmine when it comes to pics as people will be very pleased to have done their first aff event!

only if good shot and it shows good fence

**What is the average price you pay for a photo?

£13 plus too much................

**Do you prefer to see your photo displayed there and then, ie on a PC and then printed, or do you take the website details and wait until the photos go up and then order?

don't mind really

**What sort of photo do you buy/like the look of more?
Dressage divas, side on or front on? Trot or halt? headshot? Particular movement?

a meduim pace ones......... with flicking toes

SJers- side on or front? Landing, Take off or mid air? Canter shot? Head shot? Particular fence?

take off & MA

Eventing Queens- side on or front? Take off, M A or landing? Particular fence? Gallop shot? Head shot?

take off, MA, biggest or water jumps
and also
What i like is series of photos ie jumping combination, with a second gap break so you can join images together to get real movement - done a few for mates and they look fab.... but have to be very spiecall event as you need to buy a few images etc.............

I will buy photos if I like them and/or if things have gone well.
I live in Ireland so not sure what you pay in the UK. Also all the above photos were taken by a very good friend of mine who worked as a professional photographer (until she went back home to Chile).
Interesting angles and fences always make good shots. Will only buy them if horse and combo look well in them.
Another thing- if a rider falls (and is unhurt) the sequence of shots can be quite funny. My mother bought a sequence of me falling off into the water and they are up in the tackroom! Just as a reminder!

If there is a good one

An achievement or if i particularly like a picture

**What is the average price you pay for a photo?
for one a bit bigger than A5 non more than £15

**Do you prefer to see your photo displayed there and then, ie on a PC and then printed, or do you take the website details and wait until the photos go up and then order?
Website, so much easier, you can look through the pictures as many times as wanted then. I have only ever bought about 2/3 pictures on the day.

**What sort of photo do you buy/like the look of more?
SJers- side on or front? Landing, Take off or mid air? Canter shot? Head shot? Particular fence?
Side or Front as long as taken at the right time. I prefer all for feet off the ground but cannot be too late in that the front end is going back down! Any fence that looks nice as well, not just a boring one!

Cantering round shots are nice if a good one can be got as well/ a nice head shot

If you take the time to help me out then MANY THANKS, really want riders' views on a service offered.

**Do you tend to buy a photo at an event?
Yes, if it's a good shot

**Reason why you buy one - do you always get one, or to mark a good day or an achievement?

Good memory of the day
If it's a good 'un or unusual

**What is the average price you pay for a photo?
Approx £10, would prefer cheaper so I could buy more than 1 !!

**Do you prefer to see your photo displayed there and then, ie on a PC and then printed, or do you take the website details and wait until the photos go up and then order?

Like seeing them there and then with the option of looking them up on a website and buying online if I can't make my mind up or haven't got time to look at the Tradestand

**What sort of photo do you buy/like the look of more?

Photos taken of the most impressive SJ or XC on the course! Never buy the piddly ones!

Would be nice to have some dressage ones if I'm at an event though I know the photographer can't be at 6 rings at once.

I also buy pics of the jumps we got wrong - like getting left behind at the ditch jump or hanging round her ears over the oxer - good for the album those ones are!
