Hi
Help please, my friends brood mare has really, really, swollen legs, the vet has checked her protein levels, etc and all normal, does anybody have any experience of this type of complaint. (she is due to foal in 2 and a half months time)

Mare is in terrible state, can't walk and is in lots of pain, vets are coming out daily, but she just seems to be getting worse.

All help and advice much appreciated.

It sounds similar to pre-eclampsia in pregnant women and that is due to high blood pressure. If it is very bad they usually induce humans but don't know about horses

Hopefully the vet can sort it out, sending good vibes her way

sounds like either cellulitus or lynphangitus, is hse on antib's or can she not have bute or some kind of pain relief/antinflam' as shes in foal??, have you bn advised to cold hose her legs/walking in hand and try and make her as comfy as poss, sometimes these things accelerate and can appear worse before then become more stable

can also look so heartbreaking as they are truly uncomfortable, my friends mare took about a week before she was ok and then you really have to watch protein type levels, am assuming vet took bloods??
