Got a call from my mum this morning asking if I'd taken down any of the stud railing in the field as she could see a gap...I jumped in the car, drove up there only to find the top rail on the floor and my just retired 23 year old 17.2 ex National Hunt horse in the wrong half of the field.. He wasn't interested in being checked over, just hoolying around the field so set about making the fence secure to keep the others where they should be.
Fixed the fence with hammer, sheep hurdles and bailing twine, stood back and admired my handy work, and then got a closer look at the said horsey...
This is his shoulder...
And this is his hock...
Not to mention the other skinned patches and scrapes...
Cleaned up what I could, got the vet out (yes it's a bank holiday weekend of course) and the upshot is tetanus jab, antibiotic jab, pain killer/anti inflammatory jab, can't stitch/staple as too far open etc so poor chap is in his stable tonight with very shoddy hock bandaging and covered in Equaide
And there was me thinking that after my round trip to Dorset from East Sussex yesterday to see a new horse, that I would have a nice uneventful day to myself - trust William to liven things up!
