All I wanted 2 do was ride in the rain...... now I am in bed in agony ......

agreed - sorry if its genuine but i cant see anyone laying in bed in total agony, typing away on a laptop not knowing for sure if there back is damaged or not

funny you should say that, someone i know is in bed after falling off yesterday after being sent home from hospital and i would say she is in the same amount of pain, they said she might have a spinal fracture. but i think shes talking out her arse tbh, iv not known a hospital say it might be a spinal fracture, so go home and see what happens!

Go to A&E BB! *looks stern*
If this was your horse would you be getting the vet out?
Exactly
Off you go! *looks approvingly at BB* :)

your all right.... sorry its my own fear kicking in here just incase something is bad. i hate hospitals after spending a week in one before and recently watching my aunt die in the same one not 3 weeks ago. i think its fear on the fact that i lost all my confidence after breaking my leg with a horse and having a bone pin in put in my leg, and i dont want to go there again. some how lieing here i have kidded myself its fine. i will go imminently.....

I broke my back when I was 15, do you know when I found out? When I was 28!! I was having a lot of back problems and the chiro decided to xray my spine and there very visably was a fracture (albeit old) which had fused but not correctly and now I have arthritis in it. This was falling off at a jump xc, I fell on to the floor - very soft landing and not on to anything.

A week after Pixxie on here fell off and broke her ribs another friend of mine had a lesson at the same yard - massive beautiful school, sand and a lot of rubber so very soft. Her horse was spooked and she was bronked off, she had a body protector on and she landed on her back, stupidly the instructor was worried that the horse had jumped out of the school and ran off down the road, I was in hot pursuit in the car and caught the horse without too much trouble. the instructor got my friend up and came up to the yard. My friend was insistent that she wanted to go home so I got her in the car and took her straight to A&E. She had broken her back too!

Your father should not be giving you advise and the doctor that has advised you to take diclofenac should be struck off how on earth is he capable of knowing if you have broken anything? Diclofenac is an anti inflammatory it will not help with the pain.

*stern voice* pick up the phone and call and ambulance, they can give you some pain relief for the journey! do it!!! :D :D :D
vanila ice cream and strawberry sauce if you do!!

I'm another with a friend who broke her back in a seemingly gentle fall. She was going over trotting poles when the horse spooked. She came half way off the side and the horse then bronced her off.She landed on a woodchip surface and thought she was fine.Half an hour later she started to get pins and needles and feel sick. I insisted an ambulance was called and after xrays she had indeed broken her back. She was walking round fine prior to that, just felt it was likely a muscular injury and nothing to worry about. Her mum was going to take her to get checked out by car but her symptoms worried me enough for my first aid training skills to kick in and insist that she travel by ambulance.
Your symptoms are worrying enough that they should be taken extremely seriously. I am quite shocked that your dad and another doctor are just seemingly glossing it over by giving you pain killers and not insisting it is checked properly.Nobody can tell the extent of the damage without xray and given you are unable to move around to even get up for the toilet suggests that this needs taking seriously.

a remarkably similar story here too... I had a very difficult DWB when I was 16/17 ish. Out hunting one day we had a run out at a rail, and as I circled him away to come again he panicked about being left behind and ran at the barbed wire fence on one side of the rails. at the last moment he saw the wire and ducked out (thankfully). I flew off and hit a fence post. my sister says I slid down it cartoon style (you know, head down, feet in the air, comedy sliding noise etc etc). I felt fine, albeit a little winded. I got on, popped him over the fence with a lead then called it a day and my sister and I hacked home. I was bruised and a little sore for a day or two.

10 years later I was being checked for a genetic condition (ankylosing spondylitis) that my mother and grandmother have/had and the doctor spotted a very obviously healed fracture with a bony spur around the area... Luckily I've never had a back problem yet and there is no sign of the ankylosing spondylitis either. But i count myself lucky. I was wearing a BP, but still cracked a vertebra. Yes I walked away, but to think what could have happened.

OP - I hope it isn't anything serious, but my experience just shows that even the most innocuous fall can break something vital! Please get it properly checked out once you've seen if the pain killers help (even if it's only enough to allow you to get into a car!). :)

Please go to A and E hun, honestly you think its not that bad....but it can be alot worse than you think.
2 years ago i fell down 3 steps, landed on my outstreatched arm.....got up and thought sh*t that hurt....but at the time i was more concerned with the 2 broken toes i had sustained. I didnt do anything about my arm at the time (infact went to the gym that night to do some bits on the bike (well tried to but my toes were giving me grief) but next morning, i had full on pins and needles, my arm went blue so i got taken to A and E and i had broken the bone going up my arm from my elbow, had dislocated my shoulder and elbow (i am hypermobile...so i dislocate easily!) and had ripped the ligaments off of my elbow joing. This lead to the next 6 months with my arm strapped up (not cast) but strapped to me and it took a full 12 months of physio and acupuncture after that before i had proper use of my arm. So please get checked out even if you hate hospitals, i do too, i have to be dragged kicking and screaming, dont leave it incase it really is more serious than you think.
Fingers crossed you are ok and you are less sore soon xx

QR
I hope you have been to A+E, and everything is allright.
I came off the other month and broke my ribs, OH, insisted on taking me to hospital, although i did'nt want to go, was glad i did though!!

S - you should go if it was us you would be getting us too, if you have not gone already I shall come to get you myself as I can lower the Discovery suspension, you have my number or if not to hand facebook me. Failing that I also have to collect ned from horspital so I shall bring the lorry to you and you can walk up the ramp :p:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I hope you are okay, get yourself checked over. The one and only fatality in UK endurance riding was at a welsh ride where the poor lady fell of her horse onto a log used as a mountain block at the end of a road crossing bridge. She was apparantly okay but in pain and talking when in the air ambulance but died of internal bleeding which was not detected until in hospital.

Please go and have your back x-rayed. Three years ago my daughter plopped off on to her bottom in a hard field and had broken her back quite badly just where you bra goes!!! 6 weeks in a metal brace - but now riding happily again and no after effects at all. Funny that your father is a doctor!!!

The last activity according to her profile was at 9.52pm, so hopefully that's a good sign.

(Sorry, I'm not stalking you really :o)

Clearly no one on here has lived with a medical professional!!!!

My mother just tells me to get a grip & get over it. Only found out about my fractured cheekbone on a dental x ray several years later. Foot was found when I had x rays prior to elective surgery.

I think when you live with a medical professional who sees serious injuries/illness on a daily basis, they are more inclined to tell you to be tough!!!

Hey all

I am amazed and honored you are all so concerned.

So here is what happened. After I left the forum, I was visited by a Doc who agreed with Dad, nothing broken, or if broken it was stable enough to wait until I was on enough anti inflams to get myself to hospital tomo morn. I was not too impressed with this but there was little I could do from an immobile place on my bed, unable to move to go for a wee without help. Anyway a friend rushed over after leaving work to come and see me, she brought lots of chocolates and grapes and we had lots of fun watching a lot of rubbish on my computer, I introduced her to Spartacus blood and sand and we did some sudoku and other puzzles and looked through the horse and hound at the gorgeous neddies for sale. Anyway, time flew by and it was dinner time and my family thought, as I had managed the last loo trip on my own, that I should come a sit in the kitchen for dinner. This lasted about 10 mins in which time I at very little felt v sick and again nearly fainted. My sister was over for dinner and wanted to take me into hospital then but we got me back to bed to ease the pain and I immediately felt better. However over the next hour I slowly ran out of medication to take and my back became agony, particularly the top of my back that had so far just been numbed by the painkillers.

There followed me ringing West Call and the doctor suggesting I go and get it X rayed as it was now the top of my back that was in agony, and this is never a good sign. So at 11 pm I finally convince my parents that A and E is that place to go. Which did not impress my Mum as she was wanting to do it early morning trip once she had had sleep, but on seeing my distress, agreed with me that for my peace of mind it was to be tonight. So my friend left and we got me in the car and into A and E. it took 1.5 hrs to be seen and some prodding of my back which caused a lot of pain, i had to do some tests for the doctor etc etc all at 1 in the morning and I was v tired. He asked at one point wether I was seeing double, which I was but i knew it was to tiredness and the pills. So he gave me loads of painkillers that made me totally high and I went for an x ray which was very painful due to some of the positions the radiographer forced me into. Anyway the good news is all the X rays, and there were a lot of them from every angle under the sun!!!! came back clear! I have badly bruised my back which is now in total spasm and I need to move it a little bit to reduce stiffness over the next few days and will probs need to go and see a physio (but I wont I will go and see my osteopath as she knows my back inside out and upside down as she had been working on it for the last 1.5 years) and lots of painkillers and I should be all ok by next week.

YAY!!!!!!!!!! Anyway Mum was not impressed at being kept up til 3. 30 am this morning, I however couldnt of cared less as I was scared and wanted my back properly checked. My Dad is annoyed with me as I didn't listen to his advice and thought he was wrong, and I dont care, as if it was his back I would have taken him to A and E. I wasnt actually too concernd I had cracked a vertebrae as I had had no pins and needles in feet and no loss of feeling, but I thought I had more likely chipped a bit off of one, but I havnt done either.

Lesson learned from this,
A) if in doubt, just call ambulance regardless of parents and their time wasting ideas
B) never ever ride out without my back protector on!!!!

Sorry its so long winded, but I thought it would help ease all your minds. Thank you all sooo much for your support and advice. Greatly received with huge gratitude. Huge boxes on chocolates and flowers for all who get this far (sometimes really wish I could send real chocolates and flowers and times like these) :) :)

Horses eh???? no wonder the rest of the world think were completely nuts! :D :D

Posted in the other thread too same story! :)

I've only just caught this thread and have got more and more alarmed as time was ticking on and you hadn't gone to hospital. I'm so glad that you got checked over properly, no disrespect to your parents but they can only really judge from external symptoms.

Hope you get well soon xxx

Few inconsistancies in your story (!) but if true I wish you a speedy recovery, and you've made me very greatful that I dont have parents like yours or a dr like your dad!!
If person is falling in and out of conciousness hours after the incident that should be straight to a and e!

oh and fracture clinic do not take g.p referals only a and e ones

Go on then seadog, if you're going to make comments like that you can blooming well explain yourself. What are her inconsistencies.

Sorry I wasn't trying to be detective seadog! I just think either the OP is exagerating as she did say she was fainting on and off when she got home or her dad is not a very good dr. as thts the first thing you look for with any kinda back or head injury.
Oh and she said she was gunna get doctor to refer her to a&e so she didn't have to wait, then she said he would refer her to fracture clinic - both impossible.
I don't think poster is lying at all, just poss exagerating a bit?

Sorry only posted a few times, and don't think I come accross as I intended to, I am very nice in person!
