ALL my gear is gone :(

Big hugs, and well done for coming out the other side of it!

People do make me sick though, what right do they have to chuck or take someone elses stuff! I've had people do that to me when I've been at the yard every day still, makes me so angry! I hope they can "find" it for you! but don't let them take the P and fob you off!

Good luck!

Hi, you have a good moan I would it won't get your stuff back but it might make you feel better. Oh and well done for picking today to post your moan when all the caring, responsible people are on the forum.

Thank you both :)

I will ask the yard owner about it again tomorrow - mainly because I've noticed 'someone' has put all the ointments and lotions etc in a big box I left. It's his stuff, so he must know what happened to the stuff in it. But ultimately if it is gone for good - it's not worth kicking up a fuss, I'd not have anything to gain from the situation. I would guess there are 3 turnout rugs (two rambo heavyweight, one shires middleweight), two stable rugs, various fleeces, cotton coolers etc. Boots, bandages, grooming kit. I guess stuff that, whilst I don't have my own horse anymore, I don't need - but I was planning on either keeping it, or selling it on.

I have a good memory and recognise instantly what is mine - you know your own stuff by the marks (and holes!) they have in them, so I will be having a good look about tomorrow.

If they were getting in the way, I'd rather they rang me to tell me, but perhaps they knew how uncomfortable I felt. They knew I had been in hospital and my situation.

One good point - he still has my horse. He hasn't/won't sell him on, and I can hack him out when I like, as well as riding the lovely 18hh zangersheide gelding I've been given. So I feel like I've got too much to lose by complaining, it's just stuff, I suppose. But stuff I've had for over 10 years, sentimental stuff. A rug I made for my first horse with my initials sewn on. Sabre cordoba bridle, my boots, travel gear, competition gear, I had some gorgeous leather tendon boots. All just gone. And nobody can say where, and I can't ask too much. Rock and a hard place.

Oh well.

Thank you. I'm sure I'll be ok. If they feel guilty enough then they won't mind me helping myself to the stuff for THEIR horse, haha. I didn't want this to become a begging/charity thread so I'll stop it there, I just wanted to work out what to do for the best, and ended up answering my own question (by saying there is no answer, typical me!).

Oh by the way, MrsMozart your PM box is full!

This thread has warmed my cockles - proof positive that HHO is a proper community populated by some truly generous, kind people :)

OP can you look at it this way...you thought you were getting free riding but you've actually paid for it with your stuff? If these people have also given your horse a long term home rather than sell on for profit, isn't that also a bonus? as it sounds like you would have had to sell to a dealer for a quick sale otherwise. Ok so you've lost a ton of expensive stuff, but in general it sounds to me like these people have done you a massive favour.

If you really want your stuff back why not start with the containers and say you're coming to collect them at the weekend? Then go round the whole yard and everyone's boxes /tack room etc and if you find something that you're sure is definitely yours, exclaim in pleased surprise that you've found it, thanking the person whose box you found it in for keeping it safe for you :wink3: Hopefully such an approach would cause minimal offense.

That's how I'm trying to see it sugar - I'm a big big believer in karma and a universal balance, so I like to think it all evens up in the end. That's what my H is saying also. I will embark on a major hunt tomorrow, but getting gusset won't bring it back, so I suppose just getting on with what I've got is the best way to keep positive.

Could you maybe stick a note up in the tack room (with permission of the YO) asking anyone who has borrowed your stuff or kept it safe for you to please place it back with your containers, stress that you arent mad (even if you are) and wont be asking questions but would like your stuff back please

No advice to offer than what a bummer, I don't sell much retail now but have odds and ends of new(old) stock lying around in my workshop, I have a new in a plastic carry case a basic grooming kit. IF you want it it's yours, send me your full name and address and I will shove it in the post next week or get a courier to courier it up. Hope it cheers you up a bit :)

The grooming kit is this and it contains
sponge, large curry
flex, large dandy brush, body
brush, plastic comb and sure
hoof pick.

You're a star, Oz. XxX

Hope you get some of your stuff back, OP, it would be nice to see at least some of it back. :)

I like WelshD's idea: just a note to ask if anyone knows where it was stored, no blame, like we do with the kids, just want it back, no questions! Things often come back better that way.

Meant not to do any more postingbut when I saw your little story I just had to. Depression is such a crippling disease and I admire you so much for overcoming it. You seem to have been through a lot. But as others have said these are only things and they are not important. Don't let this little thing get to you. My best wishes for a continuing recovery. Hugs

OP, just wanted to say it is good news that you are now feel better able to ride again, Welsh D has a nice approach suggested above.

You are right having been away for some months a friendly enquiring approach is the most likely to get results for you, people do "borrow" items and over time forget they are not their property.

I hope some of your belonging do turn up.
