How hard is it to train an ''ordinary'' little horse to be a PC level polo pony?

She is bold, has attitude, press the right buttons and you get the right answers, but press the wrong buttons not much happens!!
Has evented, has shown, loves jumping... and can respond to neck reining! Just has never had 'a long stick hitting a ball by her feet'!!
ps, she is 16 and mine! (and this is for boss's 15 yr daughter this summer)

Some people I worked for for five years made two polo ponies from their son's all rounders when he showed an interest. But they made polo ponies for a living. There is no reason why an ordinary pony can't do polo at pony club level, but it is quite hard on joints with all the twisting and turning and stopping, and can ruin a mouth for dressage.

Thanks for your reply.
I'm not so concerned about dressage any more... we were never much cop at it!
Understand about the joints, hoping as she is a tough cookie with low miles anyway and it will be only for this summer, it shouldn't be too much of a problem - should it?

With that in mind, it is possible then?? I've got the weekend to think about it and go from there?!

I'm sure you can! If your horse already responds to neck reining then you can always practise and see how the horse gets on with the stick.
I haven't been through it myself as my pony had already done it before I got him but now made him into a great allrounder and now just started polo (4 years after I got him) and been offered to be on my PC polo team.

My PC is rather relaxed about it and encourage everyone to try!

Though I do agree that if I do one sessions polo my horse goes into 'polo mode' and his dressage is rather terrible for ages after even though I use a cambridge snaffle so not hard on his mouth.
