Literally in this case ;) or Jodphurs anyways.

Kalli is difficult at shows, esp when she knows other horses there. She becomes impossibly nappy, terrible seperation anxiety and very stubborn. She rarely does anything dramatic, she just won't LISTEN!!!!! Won't go/stop/streer/bend etc and feels like an elephant to ride and makes you look incompetant. Very frustrating.

So the other day Mr Thinks-He-Knows-It-All (but seriously doesn't - I have seen him ride! An annoying personality coupled with a huge ego and delusions of granduar in regards to his horsey ability) said 'Send her to me, I'l fix her'. and various other snide comments. They've been going on for a while so it's getting annoying.

So we offered to do just that ;) We had planned to take her jumping on wed evening, so instead we asked if he would take her, "since she was obviously a bit much for us and we we were hoping he would be able to fix her.........."

The excuses were fabulous:D

Initially (last week) he agreed to do it. But then, amazinly, he couldn't.

First - 'I can't, I need to by a 16" saddle' Huh? 'I'm busy- I've been asked to drive someone elses horse to the jumping' We offered to transport both of them together so he was still free. 'But then he needed to help other friend with her horse' Not a problem - we'd do her horses so he could do Kalli. 'But he couldn't afford to as the classes were expensive' Don't worry, we'll pay for it. 'Oh, but my hat's just been dropped and not safe' It's fine - you can borrow mine - it's the same size. 'Ah, but my boots won't be suitable - you have to ride in long boots or chaps and gaiters, not muck boots' No prob -size 7 aren't you? you can use mine. 'I won't have time now as it'll take too long to get there' Really? But you only live 5mins away from the venue? (not that you know we know that;))

And finally 'I don't have any jodphurs'

After that he stopped answering his text ;)

So instead we've fed back to his little sneaky two-faced minion that it's just as well since he wouldn't be able to handle Kalli ;) Lucky for us he's going to be at the same show this weekend and should be avalible and correctly dressed to get on and 'fix her' then........................I'm looking forwards to the excuse.

Good for you - you called his bluff when he obviously didn't think you'd accept his offer of "help" so he had to find ways of digging himself out of the hole he made. What a nitwit! Beware the all mouth, no trousers brigade!!

Near me there is an 'eventer', she will get my horse going etc etc. She will produce horses etc. Can't lie about eventing though- looked her up on BE, only done 3 intros ever and badly as well. All talk!

It's a good game:D I'm not sure if he knows if we were serious or not? I suspect his ego will tell him we are genuinly wanting his help. :p Hence making use of Two-Faced Minion.

To be fair, if he's actually said yes, she wouldn't have hurt him, just made him feel like a fool. She's not dangerous, just VERY frustrating and even makes the GP dressage trainer look like she can't ride!

He's not even at this level! Or close. He literally can bearly ride and has 4 unbroken horses and two useless, unbroken, stallions. We are genuinely getting desperate with Kalli's behaviour so your 'friend' would have been welcome to come and try and 'fix her' Sadly it's an attitude and personality problem, not a schooling one:(

Made me laugh though!!

Youve probably been down this route, but have you tried just going out to a show, riding around for say 10 minutes first time, back on lorry/trailer and home and go out as many times as you can bear. Repeat, repeat repeat? increasing the time you are riding so parties become normal? then start to introduce a bit of schooling? I had to do this for a TB I bought so he stopped lighting up like a blooming Xmas tree at competitions. Did over do it though, - built up to going out for clear rounds, then came the fateful day when I did my clear round, then went to actually jump a round. Harry flatly refused to go in the ring as he thought he had done his bit and should be going home (but in my defense, I have never met a TB who was so fundamentally lazy!)

She goes out almost twice a week so there's not really more 'exposure' she can have. She's ok when on her own (in fact she's becoming nearly good - and when she's good she's amazing) but is she either goes with another horse she knows OR she meets another horse she knows, she becomes unbeleivably clingy. :( She just has servere seperation anxiety issues and nappiness that affect eveything she does. :(

proffessionals wont usually get on a horse at shows unless they have worked the said horse at home! no one wants to ride a bad round wjhatever the level just cos it hasnt done its ground work. i have been asked to ride no end of horses at shows but will NOT do it as they have not been properly produced beforehand! however i would /will/and do take horses to shows that i have previously worked! i do also have boots/breeches and jacket and hat. i think he maybe was trying to be polite in saying he really doesnt want on sit on your horse.

Great story do let us know how it ends up.

:D oh dear...thats brilliant.

Well at least you have your sense of humour, I've learnt its the most important thing to have when a horse fustrates you or your having the odd problem.

Great story, all fur coat and no knickers...or balls in this case :D

*snort* ROFLOL. Proffesional *sniggers*. Ahhahahahahahahahahaha.

*wipes eyes and tries to sit up straight*

This guy literally can bearly ride. Honestly. He often has to hold onto the front of the saddle to stay on in canter. We rode out with him once on a perfectly behaved old horse and he made all the excuse in the world to stay in walk only, and eventually got off and led her. If he wasn't such an arrogant ****** (and blaming everything on the horse, not him) I'd have felt sorry for him and his nerves. But he talks the talk.........

Fingers crossed he comes to the show on sunday. The excuses should be priceless.

YEAH well done. The world and his wife seems to know how to ride my horse who does EXACTLY what yours does. I sometimes wish he would do something a bit more dramatic as he makes me look like a complete muppet ! Funnily enough no one ever wants to ride him twice. my dressage instructor also cant make him go. he just refuses to do anything and turns into the QEII with the brakes on. He also looks very like yours . large bay and looks like should be far more obliging !

Please keep us all posted and I think she will suddenly click with going to shows. It's like when you break them in, sometimes it takes ages for them realise what you mean and then they suddenly click, Sigh!!!!:):):):):)

ahhh I love these kind of people, wouldnt it be amazing if he did actually get on and she just put him straight back on the floor :p

I wish it was like this with my mare- I fell off and couldnt do her class, I knew a fair few people there and they all point blank refused to get on her- shes a nut case when she hassnt been out in a while :o

That's verging upon cruelty to a dumb animal....the bloke of course.

Must admit I would have wet myself......

Good luck sorting her out, keep us posted!
