You may remember I took Monty on last October. I started training him for flyball and it seemed at every step we had a problem.
First he said "ball? What's a ball?
Then it was jump? do I have to go over that thing?
next came the box.
I'm not going anywhere near that! it makes a noise! How can you possibly ask me to do that?
Then he used to go over one or two jumps and clear off back to the car.
After he realised it was fun to go and fetch his ball he then decided to show us just how slowly he could do it.
I really was beginning to think he didn't like the sport and was about to give up.
But
he then decided "oh whow. I like this! I can run and jump and play and bark (We are working on less barking!) and race the other dogs and...and.... ooh I am so excited"

Well he has now been running in Open competitions since June and yestaerday he got his Flyball Graduate Certificate for 1000 points. What a star he is. He is fast and accurate and is showing he really loves the sport. He even escaped form the caravan over the weekend and ran straight to the ring to join in another division!! (whoops I was emabarrassed)
Aren't dogs wonderful?

Well 10 out of 10 for persistence:Dfrom your early description he sounded as though he just wasnt cut out for it. Just goes to show how wrong you can be, but what a feeling of satisfaction you now have and deep down you must have believed in him and he has justified your faith, well done for hanging in there.

As the year has progressed I have learned so much about him. He obviously had never been socialised. He did not know what praise was. He would flinch away when you went to put his lead on. If he made a mess of any kind (Vomit, tearing tissues or whatever) when you found it he would run away as though he was just expecting a telling off.
He had, to my mind, not been "loved" if you understand what I am saying. I think he was treated as just being a nuisance in whatever he did, poor boy.
He is so totally different now.
