I bred from my IDxTB mare because I wanted a foal for me to bring on and compete... I ummed and aghhed for a while, but it came down to the fact that she has a nice powerful hind leg (although not compared to many of the finer horses) she has lovely straight paces which just lack some 'flair', and although she is long backed, she seems to have the ability to sit back too. She has a nice strong neck, strong legs...
I chose a stallion that I believed would compliment her, and although he did have some of her 'faults' (she is a little weak in the back), they have produced a lovely foal together who is straight, can move beautifully and who seems to be put together very nicely.
But I agree, it is always a gamble... I was told not to breed from my mare because she was of unknown breeding, but I am very glad that I did now.
