all this talk of winter!!

I've heard that the 'forecast' for this winter is very much the same as last year - snow and freezing temperatures. I prefer the snow and ice to the rain though, I know it mucks up the riding but I just hate the mud!!
 
I'm in Ayrshire, Scotland. Last year we had it BAD with snow and ice. I think it may become more common. Numb feet in wellies drives fear into my heart :(

I must add for all those who feel you may want a fancy 4x4 for the winter, don't bother. My little peugeot 206 was the only car in my household that didn't get stuck (out of a Navara 4x4, a Golf and a Zafira). A couple of rescue missions for my stranded family! I just put that down to my expert driving of course ;)
 
i'd rather have snow than torrential rain and gale force winds, i find i'm more limited with doing horsey things with the wind and rain than i am with the snow.
 
No snow, I haven't been able to compete all summer, I'm determined to get some unaff DR in over the winter.

Pick carefully;) or you could end up like this, for 5 months, every year, and I live in a warm part ;) Average daytime temps of -15C for months will make Britain seem a walk in the park.

Beautiful! I'll be on the next plane with my beasts. Best make sure I book business class seats though - don't think they'd have enough leg room in economy :confused:

Bring on the snow. I love snow, I love winter, I HATE mud! So many alternative horsey sports to enjoy too :D
 
I hate snow...hate it with an unbelievable passion! Its ok for the first day when everything looks pretty and white and the ponies like playing in it. But after day one I've well and truly had enough of it!!
 
I had a good long think.

Being as I couldn't do anything for about 6/7 weeks last winter I think I'd rather be wet and be able to do things. Mud washes off :)
 
I hate mud, wind and rain. It's no fun trying to catch two very wet and muddy horses and loosing your wellies in the thick Bedfordshire clay. So bring on the cold dry weather. At least the horses can stay out all day and stay clean!
 
For goodness sake, its august and the sun is shining. My horrible legs are exposed in shorts. Get some hay, and salt in if you must, but lets not focus on winter problems yet.

Jealous. It's august, it's p!$$ing rain as it has been relentlessly for weeks. It's so cold that everyone is lighting fires/switching heating on already, horses are turning fluffy already, fields are mudbaths already, and trees are sporting autumny colours already. My car's central locking is already on it's winter delay... whenever it drops below a certain temperature the central locking unlocks the other doors after a length of time determined by how far below a certain point temp is. The colder it is, the longer the delay. I have no idea how or why, but it has been like that for three years! This morning the delay was 4 miles. That doesn't usually happen until mid/late October :(
 
Yep, although I hate the wind, I would rather that and rain to ice. Ice makes getting to the yard on a motorbike rather a bad idea........ :D
