Took both horses Spider and Mac to Twerlands this Sunday for all weather event - Final practice before Towerlands JAS.

Was really glad they had changed the course from last time, there was a bounce this time a narrow with cones and a spindle under neath and a gate - the rest pretty much the same.

Spider warmed up great for the 90cms, still finds cantering round the fences in warm ups quite hard work, her canter will hopefully get there one day but she is only 4 1/2 and very long so will take a while I think!! She went in and had a snort!! Cantered up to number one and she backed off a bit looking at the Towerlands sign ahead! Not like her as she isnt spooky at all, was just having a spooky day!! So gave her a wack behind my leg and she soon forgot about teh sign! Flew it lovely then went on to jump every thing lovely - had three down, which was just were she goes to go long then waits and taps it. But was V pleased with her to not look at anything. Im so excited about her!

Then Macs turn I warmed him up for the 1m he went in and jumped the most beautiful round - If we jump like that at JAS I will be disapointed if we dont get placed!!

He jumped every fence perfect apart from no 5 SJing he saw something move ahead and dropped a leg and had a pole not lik ehim at all so must have lost concentration. but jumped the other 20 or so fences spot on.

So decided to jump him in the 1.05m warmed him up and I could tell he was getting tired still needs a lot of fittening. He jumped V well considering this was only my 3rd ever course on him!!! And just had three down were he was tired. But the main thing is he jumped all the XC fences great and the corner etc which is very promising. For those of you who dont know he used to be a SJer so wasnt sure what he would make of XC fences but so far so good!!

Have team jumping with Spider on Sat at Norton Heath - Cant take Mac as he has too much money. Then off to JAS the following weekend. Think they both have had great practise for JAS so fingers crossed!!

That sounds like a good day. Watch Boss' video in the gallery as the course will be exactly the same for you next week. Also looking at the score sheets they commented a lot about there not being a difference in the canter between the SJ and XC

Ah really - Thanks that will help!!

Just taking Spider for education but Mac does have a good chance of getting placed so woul dlike to do it properly! So just a more forward canter I spose - They dont really want to see you bombing round do they!

If you want to make the time - you have to go very quick. In the novice I think only 3 people got round in the time. And the time faults will be the difference between getting placed or not. Watch a few go and see how far off they are then it will give you an idea. Also don't be upset if you don't get a good style mark compared to other 'named' riders.

Yes I realise that! Named riders will always win! Unless they get eliminated I spose!

So far its only really Gemma Tattersal in my classes who is a named rider.

At Towerlands yesterday everyone was getting time pens, no one was inside the time!! My friend went clear and went at a fair speed and got 22 time pens. I had, had a pole on Mac so just went slow ish on the XC and I only got 10 time pens so hopefully he will cover the ground well.

Do you get a time limit for the SJing?? And then the XC is actually fastest time is better??

Theres no time on the SJ just the XC,
practice the fence going around the corner a lot of people had the third part down, it was 4 strides, also the first part had a water tray type thing under it.

I will practise that this weekend as not jumping Mac in lesson on weds going to jump him on my own on sat to practise all these fences!!

Im not very good with striding! How many of my steps would 4 horse strides be roughly??

Thanks!!

No - 4 human strides per horse stride + 2 to take off and 2 to land. 8 human strides equal = 1 horse jumping stride and 20 human = 4 horse - but its on a curve so thats for the middle of the jump.

Thistle you've got a small horse haven't you (or long legs
