I recently posted about my stolen horsebox and i have just found out that another Whittaker build in our area was stolen off someones drive. From what i can gather it was a similar age to mine (not sure if that is just a coincidence or not) but it may be that thieves are specifically after this make of vehicle, possibly to take the body off and put onto another cab.
Whilst everyone should be wary, it might be worth doubling your precautions if you own a whittaker build. Don't leave anything in it, have it in a secure and cctv monitored place and don't just assume that it is safe if it is by your house. It is even worth taking the batteries out and someone suggested taking something out of the engine so it will be incredibly difficult for them to take it (couldnt tell you what to take out though as I haven't got a clue!)
It may sound a little fanciful but it isn't impossible, These scumbags need to be deterred in any way possible!

I just read your original post, sorry to hear that.

Sorry to hear about your box. I was told by another H & H member who'd had there Iveco stolen too a few weeks back that Ivecos arround the 2000 reg were being stolen to order and going abroad. Im sure she said Africa??? I will see if I still have the PM. Hers wasnt a Whitaker but I think it was a well known coach build.

The best thing is to have Tracker fitted to your lorry so that in the event of theft it's location can be immediately determined and it can be recovered.

Most stolen horseboxes remain in this country. They are simply resprayed a different colour and then sold on.

yes a tracker is a good idea on the older lorrys, the newer post 2001 are much harder to steal because of electronic engine managenent ( chiped key)

Ah, guess that is why they are targetting the older builds then. I will be getting a tracker fitted if we get a new waggon, there is no way these scum bags are getting another penny off me!!

I can't believe it would still be in the country, definately still worth circulating the details of it then.

How can they just respray them and sell them on, do they shift it onto a different chasis? surely there is a way to detect this when vehicles are being reregistered as coach builds (excuse my ignorance, i have no idea how they do it!)

Swines aren't they, I can't believe this goes on so freely... in fact, hang on a sec; after speaking to the police and seeing how 'efficient' they were I can well believe it!

rushed over, saw it was on a different chassis and called the police

they looked at the lorry, spoke to the "owner" and she said she had bought the box part from a man in a pub and picked it up from a field but couldnt remember when or where- the police were ok with this

in the end the insurance company allowed her to keep it for £500

No one seemed to care that she was the girlfriend of the mechanic who had been working on it the previous month....
