Hello! I'm sorry if this has already been done. We are in our 2nd year of owning our own land and this winter has ruined the winter paddock compared to last year, so I'm wanting to get something ready over the summer in preparation for the the next winter.

There's no planning permission, so an arena is out.

My husband has suggested making the L shape stables a square with some hard standing if that makes sense. So in the worse of it they can be there with their haybell. He has suggested road plainings.

Does anyone know if this would need planning or would the likes of mud control mats be better?

We currently have 6x4 stable mats there but they've dipped as the ground has got so wet and the tractor sometimes goes on them, making mud come up in between.

Thank you!

You don't need PP for any of the mats discussed on the other current thread, as they can all be lifted and repositioned. You do need PP for road planings and hard-core. You might find that planings aren't as easy to get hold of, or as cheap, as they used to be, as I believe they are now re-used in road mending.

I had a yard on Dartmoor and the Dartmoor Park Authority are very difficult to deal with but they had no objection to my letter requesting permission to lay a concrete apron in front of my L shaped stable block. I needed a suitable surface for shoeing, trimming and veterinary care was what I put in the letter.
